Device to Play Big 4K HEVC Files via receiver

G'day everyone.
Newish to the topic and wondering what people use or could recommend, that will enable 4K Hevc files to be utilised via my receiver and 4K TV.

Ultimately, I'd like to look at backing up my library and storing on a server, so all the kids don't handle the physical discs, but the server is a long way off financially.

At the moment, I am running files via Plex, my PC and Apple TV 4K.

Thanks very much.

  • I understand that the Apple TV 4K you already have has 4K HEVC decoding.

I have the original Apple TV 4 with 1080 HEVC decoding, and use a very old QNAP TS-412 NAS/Server to store my movie files. I use an app on the Apple TV called MrMC to play the files which come from my NAS. I don't have a receiver but I believe the Apple TV 4K will output to one.

  • Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

The Apple TV doesn't do audio like Atmos with the 4K hevc files I believe. Only apps like Netflix do Atmos for instance.
Please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

I will have a look into this as I may have misunderstood something along the way.
    Thanks again.

  • I'm sure the Nvidia Shield TV box has enough HP for what your asking! I don't own one but it has always been the benchmark for boxes and with wireless AC + Ethernet if its not enough, it should solve your problem.

If its an LG TV you may find you have everything already at your fingertips :)
