Need Recommendations for Phones for Parents ~ $150

Time to upgrade the parents phones from their 3+ year old Huaweis

Budget is $120 to 150, which should is adequate for a 2GB/16GB (they already have microSDs in their Huaweis which can be recycled)
Can stretch beyond 150 a bit, but would have to be a decent step up in features/performance to warrant it.

Can be unlocked or Optus locked (but can also do ebay unlocking if necessary)

So far I have seen:
Huawei Y6 2018 - https://www.bigw.com.au/product/optus-huawei-y6-black/p/8039… $124 (after WW egifts)
Huawei Y5 2017 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/401525276735 $122 (after 15% code)

Can take advantage of 15% USA ebay tomorrow if required, and can do Aliexpess if need to.

Which of the above is the better phone?

What else should I recommend them?

Thanks

  • XPeria Z3 Plus E6553 it's 3GB/32GB or if they prefer smaller phone checkout XPeria Z3 Compact which is sadly only 2GB/16GB but costs roughly the same.

    • Released June 2015 ?
So you are recommending a 3 year old flagship?

      • Still brand new condition, nothing wrong with the phone especially for parent usage :) older flagships are more usable than modern budget phones I find.

Another 3yo flagship around that price is the HTC One M9

    Using 15% off tomorrow.

Stretch the budget to $185. But really, i'd get the 4gb/64gb variant for $20 more.
