Removing Untreaded Screws

Does anyone know how to remove untreaded screws? Im trying to replace the glass front of my Iphone 3GS but there is one screw that is untreaded now that stops me from taking the LCD off, but its very tiny. Any ideas of how to remove this screw? Im thinking of taking it to jewellers or something to see what they say.

Apple done it on purpose(making it hard to unscrew)

either this or bunnings, optometrist(who makes glasses on the spot), etc

Just curious, what do you mean by Untreaded? Do you mean there's no groove for any sort of screwdriver or something?

http://www.ifixit.com/, find out what tool you need off there, then either get it off that site or ebay it :)

  • I mean for one, the head groove is so dodgy the screwdriver rotates freely when turned.
And my (obviously) cheap screwdrivers wear so easily too, which makes it even harder

  • Try a rubber band… the friction between the rubber and the screw head could make the difference required.

Once you're done, buy some proper screwdrivers… Ones that are made of hard metal that wont be destroyed by unscrewing (and subsequently wont destroy remaining screwheads.)

worse comes to worse, buy really cheap set of screwdrivers, and glue it into the hole

I replaced the LCD in a 3GS a couple of weeks ago. All the screws are the same, there is no "special screw" or any that are harder to undo than any others. None are even very tight, so you must have used some really dodgy screwdrivers!

All are Philips head - first 2 screws in the bottom. Pop off the glass front using suction cap, pulling slowly from the bottom. Hinge up the 2 larger ribbon cable connectors, but SLIDE the 3rd small one's latch towards the top. Be gentle, the 3rd one is easily broken (I broke mine)

On the digitiser assembly there 3 screws on one side, 2 on the other side PLUS one at the top right on the back. All are the same.

If you have ripped the middle of the screw out, you will need to take it to a watchmaker (not a jeweller).
