Yeah, mate, you're exactly correct - they're just normal speakers. But as ozpanda said below, they angle the face of the speaker so that you sit these speakers on top of your main front speakers and the sound bounces off the ceiling. You can use these instead of mounting speakers in/on the ceiling.
Yes you will need beyond the 5.1 configuration + amp/processor with Atmos + source which has Atmos.
The speaker alone doesn’t give you Atmos. This is merely a normal speaker that’s been calibrated with optimum freq response for ceiling bounce.
If you look at the images on the amazon page, it shows how they sit on top of your existing main speakers and are angled to bounce sound off the ceiling to create the sound field.

Isn't it more the Dolby Atmos enabled amplifier that creates Dolby Atmos, and you can use any speaker as long as it's in the right configuration? Genuinely asking..
