Netbook battery EM350

1.Where can I find a deal upgrading to a 6 cell battery for the EM350.

2.Also I have the option of selling this computer to a friend and getting a new one- with better battery life. Should I upgrade battery life or get a new netbook. ? What is the best deal around now?

  • Get something else, Acer tend to be a fairly cheap brand, and the parts tend to fade quicker than others

  • Hi Mikimoz,

    What else can I get?

    • I would recommend Lenovo, Toshiba & Dell.

They all have good support and updates etc + upgrades are generally easier

      :D

  • Thanks Mikimoz,

Are you aware of any specific deals on tosh, dell or lenovo? I would really appreciate any links

  • If you still need the battery for the emachine em350, it uses the same battery as acer 532h

    • can you get 6 and 9 cell for these?

      • yep
        refer to email sent

6 cell and 9 cell difference is the charge

9 cell will last longer than 6 cell

    • Some batteries on ebay vary from 10.8 to 11.1 volts

From my understanding this should not make much difference, but I dunno how sensitive these electronics might be.

and some 9-cell are 6600, 7200 or 7800 mAh (i do actually know exactly what this value means) is that because the cell sizes might be smaller or larger? or is this artificial inflation done by the manufacturer, and in fact they would all be of an equal rating if measured?

      • The notebooks run on 3 batteries - since they are Lithium they are nominally 3.6 to 3.7 volts each… so that means the nominal voltage for 3 cells in series ("end-to-end") is 10.8V to 11.1V.

Hence, there is no practical difference between the voltage of batteries. The notebok will have regulators in it anyway (ie: the CPU doesn't run on 11V or even 5V, it's all converted down as required)

Regarding the capacity, this normally falls down to the quality of the cells. However, chinese suppliers tend to "lie" so it could be that a battery they rate at 7800mAh is actually only capable of 6000mAh. This is especially common with Chinese NiMH batteries, so I doubt they would be any more honest with Lithiums LOL.

A 6-cell is basically 2 sets of 3-cells in parallel. A 9-cell is 3 lots of 3-cells. So given the same quality of cells, a 9 cell might last 3 times as long but also be 3 times as large and 3 times as heavy.

For me, the whole idea of a Netbook is to be small and light. We had a EM350 but now use a Lenovo S10-3 which is 6-cell. I wouldn't want anything larger than that. Better to have a SPARE battery - ie: have 2 x 3-cells or perhaps a 3-cell and a 6-cell… that way you only need to lug the bigger weight and size when absolutely needed.

        • i want the 9 cell for my 5+months that i will be overseas travelling. just to help get me through some of those long transits

    9 cell.

I bought one for my EM350 and it lasts around 8-11 hours depending on usage. It's a bit bigger than the 3 cell (obviously) so it'll elevate the netbook a little. I find it helpful cause it kind of acts as a arms rest.

    • actually, i am curious how much bigger it is

does it stick out the back of the laptop a lot more?

and you say it sticks out of the bottom too? so it puts the keyboard on a slight angle?

      • The standard 3 cell is completely "flush" and doesn't protrude at all. Firstly, imagine the size of cylindrical batteries that are inside your existing battery pack… a bit bigger diameter than AA but not as large as C cells.

OK… now a 6-cell pack has 2 rows of 3 cells, one row below and slightly forward from the other.

The 9-cell has 3 rows of 3 cells. One row in the same place as your existing 3-cell, and then there's 2 more rows - one directly below, and another forward and below.

So yes, the rear of the netbook is raised up by about 2cm and there are new "feet". Adds quite a bit of weight too.

      • It just elevates, about 2cm as llama stated.

      • yeah it does put the keyboard on an angle(well basically the whole unit)

Good for airflow too(not that it overheats or anything)

I prefer it with the 9 cell battery due to the fact of the angled keyboard

  • I am basically down to choosing one of these two (well three really):

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/9cell-Battery-Acer-Aspire-One-532…

    OR

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/9-cell-Battery-Acer-Aspire-One-532h-U…

both seem identical (except three year VS one year warranty), 7800mAh, but does not explicitly state that it fits em350, so just going by people above's recommendation of cross compatibility

    the other:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/9-Cell-Battery-Acer-eMachines-eM3…

7200mAh, 3 year warranty, explicitly em350 compatible (for returns purposes, in case they make a mistake or whatever) (NOT listed as 532h compatible, which is what I used for X-compatibility to find the battery above.) Japanese cell, not sure if this makes much difference, not sure if it is even true!?

also, in the picture they both look physically quite different, I am guessing that the pictures might be just for illustration purposes only… and not an accurate representation…

and I wonder if the difference in the capacity (7200 VS 7800) is real, or just inflated by the manufacturer?

(I am an engineer, so I understand how batteries work and what all the values mean, what I am actually after is if these values are all true, and how the batteries work in real life, not just on paper.)

    • The 532h and EM350 definitely use the same battery pack. Theoretically the japanese cells will be better quality. I doubt any of the ones on eBay will provide full rated power.

That 3rd one (explicitly for the EM350) doesn't look correct! The ONLY thing that is "correct" is the title. The description is for an Acer Aspire One 751 which is a different model. I'd stay away from that battery!

This UK website states that the EM350 batter is the same as •Acer Aspire one 532h •Gateway LT21 10.1" •Packard Bell EasyNote Dot S2

    • I bought from batteries4laptop_pc
I thought my battery wouldn't arrive because it was 1 and half weeks late (due to post office reasons) and he was happy to refund me the money when I requested it. I paid him back when it arrived. So I would recommend him since I had a good experience and the battery is still going strong.

      • Wow - that is good!
