KFC is finally bringing pure death to our shores!

This isn't really a bargain, but I think enough people have heard about this overseas to be interested in it. I got this in an email (I don't even remember subscribing, but hey!):

http://node1.int.trclient.com/5176/online/18162188-2.html

One hell of a dodgy link for a newsletter, so if you're not comfortable clicking on that it basically says: The KFC Double Down is coming to Australia on this Wednesday (under the name "The Double"). But you can ask for it in store on Tuesday and they'll make it to order, though no indication to whether its free or not.

And for those unfamiliar with the Double Down… Google it. :)

Bring on tomorrow, gonna be awesome , can feel the palputations already

    • +1

But look at the nutritional analysis. Sure, it looks bad, but it's more scary that it is not the worst thing on the market.

      • +1

No a double quad from Hungry Jacks is worse, but soooo nice :)

  • +5

Holy crap, there's no bread. Instead it's chicken where the bread usually goes, and a heart attack waiting to happen where the chicken usually goes.

At KFC prices, this "burger" is gonna cost about $10.

Here the wiki for those who can't be googled:

My mouth says yes…but my heart's not in it!

final decision goes to the brain!

      • +5

I think the decision is actually going to my ****hole

        • +3

Well that was a bad decision…attended court recently after having one the day before. Oh lordy! The amount of wind that I was passing internally…(couldn't make a sound in a courtroom). Went into the bathroom, made sure no one else was there, let it rip and I swear I saw the tiles on the walls shake…

I am still waiting for the Heart Attack Grill chain to be opened here in Oz

Strangely enough, some work for this product came across my desk only 30 minutes ago!

Here's the review of the Double down "burger"

    http://www.avclub.com/articles/kfcs-double-down-sandwich,328…

God clearly did not mean for humans to eat chicken, bacon, and low-quality, gelatinous cheese at the same time. I was suddenly struck with a strange urge to keep kosher. Each bite became a grueling endurance test, as the cheese and grease began to override the chicken breasts, and the sandwich grew more revolting-looking with each bite.

WOO! I LOVE LIVING IN QUEENSLAND! WE'VE GOT IT FIRST IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY!

The only bad thing about this is the 2 grams of salt. Other than that…OH…MY…GOD!

It is the oral/tastebud equivelant of a 3 minute orgasm! If it wasn't for my brain kicking in and limiting my intake I would of happily chewed on 2. These are THAT good! Even if it's just once, you HAVE TO TRY IT!

It absolutely CRAPS all over anything KFC has ever done before!

Ever watched 'Futurama: The problem with poplars', or Homer Simpson chasing the Ribwich around? This is the real life equivelant!

    • +2

Oh…I also think Subway's new Wagyu just got severely owned! Their latest offering doesn't even shave the sides of this! I can still taste this in my mouth!

This is kind of strange…really…really strange actually! I'm not having the usual 'after effects' that I usually get when eating fast food. Not sure if it's the extra exercise I've been doing or the lesser amount of crap in this.

  • Whao, I wonder if I can order this Double with extra chicken patties? A bit low on energy at the moment. :P

  • I think someone should take Marto for one.

  • Much rather a double mighty angus with extra cheeses and bacon.

    • I liked my McChicken Big Mac. Just change the sauce, patty and ask for no pickles. I think it is different and delicious.

  • +4

Okay that was much better than i thought!!!!

at first it looked small and 2x double down large meal was approx $23.00

bit hard to eat , taste was nice , hard to finish as its gets messy

afterwards had a energy rush for about 10 mins then wanted to sleep…..

overall 7/10 well worth the try

    • -1

oh hv to pay for it? i thought it's free..

      • +2

        Why would it be free?

    • +1

Did you have to show anything to get it, or did you just ask for it?

I tried to get one at the Broadway KFC @ Sydney a little while ago. Manager asked for an email, which I showed her on my phone. She then said it had to be printed, and I pointed out the email said nothing of the sort. She then said you needed a VIP card or something which I'm pretty sure doesn't even exist, but at which point I gave up because clearly she did not want to give me a burger for some reason.

Psch, way to kill the mood!

      • Wasnt today the first day?

        • Technically it comes out on Wednesday, but the email/newsletter says you can ask for it on Tuesday and it'll be made for you. FWIW the broadway store did not have any of the signage up for the burger yet.

        • Oh, by 'a little while' did you mean as in hours rather than days/weeks? I misassumed.

      • +2

I just annoyed them until they gave it to me, i mentioned the phone ie show them but i am quite pushy :)

        • The manager you talked to probably had a bad day or her shop wasn't making much money.

  • Also, for anyone wondering. It's still got less calories & fat than a big mac. :)

    • Awesome, making my KFC runs healthier than maccas runs..

      • It feels better now, doesn't it? hahaha

Get yourself The Double today! Our KFC fans can get it one day before everyone else- go go go!!

    .
    .
    .

Hey guys, our apologies on behalf of the stores that wouldn't sell you The Double today. While there are some customers who have had trouble getting their hands on The Double, it has gone very well in most areas. Glad those of you that tried it loved it! You can all definitely get it tomorrow and we have an additional surprise for you!

    • +1

Heh, thanks for that issh! So I guess it was more a dumb head office marketing miscommunication rather than the store itself.

    • +1

Maybe KFC could offer a free voucher to those who were affected by stores refusing to sell them one? I do realise that not being sold is isn't the end of the world, but it'd be nice because in this day and age a store shouldn't have stuff-up's like that!

      • +1

It happens when one manager got the email but wasn't on duty that day while the manager on duty didn't see the email. It's possible.

  • That doesn't look too bad but I would have to be pretty hungry to eat it.

    • people say that it doesn't make you that full

      • +2

Guess I can make my own replica of the 'burger' at home with cheese and chicken patties.

  • additional surprise today … fully coated in milk chocolate?

    • What are you doing up?

      • hi! - is that on-topic? ;)

watching Clint Eastwood in 'The Gauntlet' … just finished … hows things? :)

        • +4

          I think I'm craving death, KFC stylez…

  • yes … first Death by Chocolate … now Death by Chicken … surely we can have death by Chocolate Chicken mmmmmm :)

    • +2

it couldnt be any worse than kfc's sweet potato chips

      • Are they bad?

        • i had 2 and threw the rest out, thats how bad i thought they were, and two things im not wasteful with are beer/hot chips lol

edit: yeah with gravy you could

        • Reckon they'd be edible with a (edit) BUTTLOAD of gravy? I love sweet potato chips generally speaking.

        • +1

I prefer baked sweet potato. They are just so sweeeeet. :P

  • seriously you should try beautiful thin dutch pancakes wrapped around fruit mincemeat, topped with fresh whipped cream served on delft plates … or brought home to you at midnight … :)

    • +1

you lost me at fruit mince meat pulls a gordon ramsey disgusted face lol

      • I'm disgusted at Gordon, he charged me 100 pounds for NOT going to his Chelsea establishment a couple of years ago!

        • sounds like a story

        • +1

          I'm interested…

        • +3

I'm on iPhone now so have to be brief … In those days you had to book 30 days ahead & there was a non refundable 100 pounds deposit at his Chelsea place … Had to change plans … Lost deposit … Actually went there later … And apart from leaving a large tip when a hefty service charge was included in the bill … Enjoyed it

        • +2

I'll charge you 50 pounds if you like to swear in your face and serve you a re-heated microwave meal if you like. I'll even spit in it for an extra fiver.

See, the full Gordon f**king Ramsey experience for half the price!

    • +2

Feel like coming to deliver some to South Melb? :)

I used to serve 'em up in London at a place called "My Old Dutch" they were surprisingly scrumptious (my favourite out of 101 sweet and savoury pancakes)

The product description on the US website says the Original Recipe Double has 1380mg of sodium. Download the nutrition PDF, and that says it has 1990mg. The calories and fat figures are also inconsistent.

Nutrition info is one of those things companies could get away with just making up, since only weirdos like me are watching and we ain't gonna do anything about it :)

zinger version with supercharged sauce swapped out for BBQ is an orgasm in the mouth.

    • +1

I think I'd still like a bun around it :)

    • I go for the zinger version myself :)

  • that's a heart attack on a plate.. bad enough you can't get enough hot wings down your throat fast enough but now they even took out the bun.. it looks like double the artery clogging goodness.. but i wanna try it..

    • +2

This whole thread is based on a lie, just like the comments by Rosemary Stanton. Most burgers are based on meat within a bun. Its the bun that has some of the most heart stopping ingredients like refined white flour AND sugar. Buns are not bread rolls, they are sweetened.

And if you dont believe that its sugar and refined goods that is the problem, go back to the fat…..

The Double with 1939 kilojoules, 22.3 grams of fat
Take a Big Mac 1965 Kilojoules with 24.9 grams of Fat
Grand Angus with 2630 kilojoules, 33.2 grams of fat
Double quarter pounder 3560 kilo joules and 53.4 grams of fat.

Even a large coke has around half the kilojoules as the Double with 937

Science is now questioning if the heart clogging is coming from the fat we eat or the sugar/refined processed homogenised/anti oxidising products that are prevalent in many packaged/fast foods.

But hey lets not let figures get in the way of a good rant

      • Very interesting…scratches chin

      • It's so true. People overreact to this burger as if it's such a huge deal, do they seriously think that the "bread" in these burgers is healthy? Like you said, it's over processed white flour & sugar, and it's far from good for you. I've seen (not done personally) a lot of diets that allow you to eat fast food burgers… As long as you throw out the bun! And hey, Atkins is a relatively well respected diet, and it would definitely allow this burger as a treat.

The bun does you more harm than the meat, that's for sure.

I tried it yesterday. $8 for one, $10 for a meal (inc small coke and chips).

Basically 2 chicken fillets, microwave cheese, some bacon and some bbq sauce.

It comes in a "pouch" much like the mcd's apple pies, except much wider. Theres a pull-tab on the box which splits the pouch in half. That way you can eat it without going anywhere (allegedly).

It was a strange feeling, eating a bacon burger where the burns are chicken fillets is a strange thing. The bbq sauce was sweet and overpowering.

Would i try one again? probably not.

Oh, and its alot smaller than you think. The image there is a bit misleading. It fits inside the box very easily.

EDIT: its 200grams all up, and is around 10% fat.

If you have any questions, please let me know

It looks like yours came in a buger box, where mine came in the promotional "pouch". :/

      • oh it's not mine
        stolen from OCAU THREAD

      • The pics there are from America. That would explain the box and the "KGC" (Kentucky Grilled Chicken)

        • Maybe an aussie should start up a chicken chain cheaper than the Kernel. Could always call it 'GFC' :P

image - explains what i was talking about with the pulltab

  • This thing is so effing yummy in the zinger version with the sauce swapped for BBQ. The reason is they make it to order, so it will be piping hot and fresh. Totally rip off though, should be $5-$6.

    • Agree on the rip-off, but glad to see that people are agreeing with me on the zingers!

  • The burger is great but they say the double Qtr pounder still tops the charts
