Howdy! Just wanted to post about lord of the rings online (or LOTRO for those in the know).
It is an MMO that was previously a subscription game, meaning that you paid to access it with monthly fees. Last year it was changed to free to play and it has had some really good feedback from players and the media. In fact it was MMO GOTY over at PCGamer for 2010. They said:
"When it came to keeping us entertained all year long with small updates, plus throwing us the occasional party with huge loads of free content, LotRO treated its fans the best."
Not bad for a game that's 3 years old.
Turbine (the company that made the game) is making money from purchases made to change the cosmetics in the game and to help you level up faster, but people have commented that it is very enjoyable to play even without making purchases with real money.
I just wanted to make people aware in case anyone was looking for a bargain MMO to play.
i also wanted to put the word out to ask if anyone has found a cheap way to get Turbine Points (used as currency in the game). The points cards are sold in Target.
They run huge promotion once in a while for turbine points. The last one has $29.5 USD package which gives turbine points in ration of 107TB:$1.
