Help Looking for Small Form Desktop / Laptop

Hi all,

Not too tech savvy here and need to upgrade my 8 years old desktop.
Looking to get either a laptop or a small desktop.
I really dont know much about latest tech, saw the JB-HiFi $499 laptop deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/417562) but the response in that post are horrendous and a friend told me the word "pentium" should not be a thing anymore on new desktop/laptop. So I shouldnt get that one.

I am that far behind on the advancement of computers.

Just looking for something that can last 5 years+
I Run large microsoft excel files.
Will be used for watching youtube, netflix and listening to music.
Will run Adobe Lightroom for amateur photography.
I tend to run multiple programs at once when working (5 pdf files, 7 word.doc, 3xls) at the same time, etc etc.

Either laptop or small desktop is good. Have looked at the DELL refurbished outlet, but not sure which one is a really good deal.
This https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lenovo-ic-510s-7y-desktop.ht…
and this https://www.umart.com.au/Lenovo-10ST002TAU-M720-SFF-i5-8400-…
was recommended by a friend. Not sure if they are a real bargain or not.

If its a laptop, preferrable to have a numpad.

Should I wait for boxing day? is boxing day better than black friday?

Thanks heaps.

If you're going to buy a Lenovo, you will get cheaper prices if you buy directly from Lenovo.com.au and then use cashback to get additional rebates on your purchase.

If you're looking for Dell Deals, most of them usually happen on eBay as opposed to their main website, mostly due to the fact that they are just piggy backing off eBay promotions. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/dell.com

If you're buying from big-box electronic stores like JB Hifi or Harvey Norman, best to do a little bit of research online to see if you're getting a good price, as most often the prices are inflated due to margins and commissions paid to the salesperson.

  • If you were looking for a desktop, check out Techfast au on eBay.

Probably sound like their promo guy, but their prices are stupid good for ehat they give (especially when looking at the lower end).

Albiet I think the newer case would be to big for your liking, and you'd absolutely want to upgrade the PSU if you want longevity.

Besides that, Lenovo's a brand I'd absolutely recommend, though I'm thinking closer to the $800 mark with ThinkPad's (although the e485 can get pretty low with cashback). I've heard their low ends garbage though.
