Trying to Return a Game I Opened, Would This Work?

Weird one, but..
I recently bought a game for PS4 because I was planning to get a PS4 during Black Friday, although I decided to get an xbox instead.
Now the store I bought the game from won't accept a return because i've opened it.. I was wondering, if I were to buy the same PS4 game from EB games, keep it in the packaging & return it to the other store, would that work? & then return the opened one to EB? or would either store be able to tell that game was from another store?

Lol, it’s about a 2% chance you will get a sealed one from EB. But if you do, yes it will work.

haven't bought games in a while but pretty sure whenever I bought from them they gave me a sealed one from out back.

      • How old is the game?

        • ah came out this month pretty sure.

          • @[Deactivated]: Oh okay. Better chance then.
Even if target? doesn’t accept the return you can still return the other one to EB with no questions asked within 7 days I think.

As long as EB aren't selling a special edition exclusive to their store, it should work as they have the same barcode (I would take a photo of the barcode of the game you have and make sure it's the same as the one in EB Games)

  • All my "brand new" games have been unsealed. Never caused an issue with returning. Did you try returning at a different EB Games? I'm guessing Store A has a policy of not unsealing games (they've gone rogue), but if Store B unseals new games and/or has had many returns from other stores that have been unsealed when new, they may not question it.

Of course, it could just be a rule about this specific game, maybe no stores are supposed to be unsealing this specific game title before purchase?

In the future, try not to open games that you may or may not use because you don't even own the console yet.

    • I don't think he originally bought from EB

      • Makes sense. Well no, it doesn't, it's the only store he named. Anyway…

Good luck getting a sealed copy at EB Games. I'd tell them you specifically want a sealed copy. And then return the unsealed copy to a different EB Games, because they'll probably remember the guy who whinged about wanting a sealed copy. Do make sure bar codes are the same. I mean they should be, but still.

  • what is the game?

why did you open the game before you got the console?

  • You could reseal the game.
I had similar issue a while back, but for many discs rather than just 1. I looked into it, and seems that shrink wrap is required and either use a household iron, or get heat seal device, then I think can use a hair dryer (but I have a temp controlled low temp hot air gun).
If you have some shrink wrap and a hair dryer and iron, might be worth a try. I haven't tried yet myself, but Im guessing it takes a bit of practice or a few attempts, to get the perfect looking relealed item.
Edit: I think I just googled "how to seal DVD" or something like that, when I came across all required info on how to reseal an 'opened' game.
