Recycling Small Appliances [Sydney]

I've got a non-working microwave, pressure cooker and pizza oven that I need to dispose of. My council suggests putting it out with the council pickup where it will go into landfill.

The City of Sydney has an e-waste drop off day tomorrow (24 November) where they will recycle the items. However, it's a fair distance to drive to drop off the items and return home. I'm not sure which option is more sustainable, not taking into account the opportunity cost of my time.

  We drop at council depot, but it is close by.

      isn't unplug & drop at all bunnings?

      I've dropped off small appliances at my local before. They have a large bin inside the main entrance.

  Put it out on the nature strip with a sign saying "For sale- $20".

      Then someone else will cut off the power cord for 50c worth of copper making it useless for everyone.

  I've seen those bin you put clothes in but for recycling of small electronic things around Melbourne, surely there would be something similar in Sydney?

  Scrap metal yards will often take such things and sell to scavengers rather than use for scrap.

  There are community recycling centres across NSW. It may be location dependent, but my local one does accept small appliances.

  Mile End Bunnings in SA has an appliance collection for disadvantaged people, they apparently refurbish them and donate. I don’t know if it’s Bunnings national
