    Oh yeah, definitly.

Was foolish enough to buy just the bulb once - without the overly expensive bridge.

Just picked that up , that'll make 3 bulbs and a bridge which is pretty nifty

The bridge is a must if you want to 'smart' things around.

Well done being patient and waiting for a good deal. In the end you've probably ended up on top

Awesome new to this. I guess this is a good start kit.

    • Also 12% cash back :)

      • I should set that up for next time

  • TP link smart bulbs ~$25 each, directly connect to wifi, no hub required
    why pay more?

    • +1

      wifi << zigbee

      • can't see the value from it in normal household
Also, once you get the hub, you would tend to stick with the brand and keep buying only their bulbs
I hate this kind of "brand loyalty"

        • True. Hue does not compare to LIFX in terms to color quality. However the reliability beats any competition using wifi. When someone wants to put 30+ smart lights in the house, the priority is to make them work as intended.

          • @claud0902: Haven't tried LIFX, but FYI there is a 'third generation' colour type for Hue, which isn't in Australian regular bulbs yet. The blues / greens are a lot more accurate - I think the only stock in Australia which is using the third gen colour system are the "Portable Go", as well as the "Lightstrip". They're heaps better

            • @snoopydoop: Hi Snoopydoop, we have the 3rd gen bulbs here (with rich color label on the top corner of the package). However the batch we have is different to what are selling in the Euro or US market. Ours are heavier, which I believe has better quality than the newer batches sold overseas which has plastic material to cut the cost.

In terms of color quality, they are identical.

But no matter what gen, Hue does not stand a chance compare to LIFX. LIFX has the memory to save the light color and brightness from the last power-off. LIFX is brighter and has better color quality and range. But LIFX is only better used for a house with less than 20 bulbs. If you want to push to 30~60 (at 60 it reaches the limit of a single hue bridge hub), hue is the only option in this market.

              • @claud0902: Oh really! I couldn't find them when I was purchasing 6 months ago, that's a shame :(

I've got two of the 2nd gen in my roof and 2x Portable Go's - it works if I just make sure I keep the roof lights on colours that they work well with, and do any other colours I want with the portables.

Can you sync LIFX bulbs to a hue bridge by any chance?

                • @snoopydoop: No LIFX works with wifi, not zigbee. It connects to your wifi AP directly so hue bridge cannot do anything.

You may rely on smart home platforms like apple homekit or google home to control them all if they both support the platform. But I am not sure how well they can work together especially you mix them in the same room/area.

    • Is that colour bulbs or plain? If plain then Hue ones have been hovering around the $25 region ever since Amazon entered the market. Certainly I've found them more consistently on sale the past year than previously.

Having a quick look and at a few places the TP-Links are coming out as more expensive than the equivalent Hue, and the extra cost of the Hub should amount to not much if you plan on getting a number of bulbs.

Another plus for the Hue is out of the box they support HomeKit. At a glance the TP Links don't.

  • Bunnings will price beat amazon by 10%.
If you buy from Bunnings, they generally update their sticker price the next day, and then you can go to OW for a further 5% price beat against Bunnings. You could always return your original bunnings purchase the next day.

Just got it price matched at Officeworks 😛 $66!

But with Cashrewards it would have been 63?

      • Pretty easy to get gift cards for 5% off or more.

        So it’ll be 62.70 or less…

  • Awesome deal with Cashback. Ordered one and my first smart home product
