Looking to Purchase Curtains to Make Bedroom Darker

Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase blackout curtains to make my room darker.

I don't want a permanent fix (RE: people in other forums recommend affixing Aluminium Foil to the windows), because I want to raise the curtains during the day to allow sunlight.

When I looked online there were so many different options and sellers E.g. Bunnings, spotlight, Kogan, curtainworld, groupon, independents etc.

How much of a budget should I set aside for the pole/bar? Is it easy to install?

Can someone please recommend a curtain or similar solution?

I'm very conscious of budget - I want this to be as cheap as possible.

Also, my window size is approx. 180cm X 120cm. (Just gauged that with my eye, didn't measure).

Also happy for any other tips to Darken a room!

  Assuming you're renting, you can get extendable rods that are temporary that work quite well.

  For the blockout curtains, watch for Spotlight sales if you aren't in a huge hurry. Sign up to their club.

  Kmart has pretty decent block out curtains. I suggest these: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/charcoal-paris-double-width… double sized ones for $35 each. Don’t buy their extendable rod though - they’re crap. Go to spotlight and spend the $20-$40 on a fixed sized rod as they look so much better and you won’t get your curtains stuck on the support bracket in the middle.

  So you want curtains, that block out the sunlight, but are able to be moved to allow sunlight in. This is going to be a hard one.

  I put up a double curtain rod in my rental to have double layers as they are much easier to change than blinds should they get damaged/dirty. I used one sheer curtain to let the light in but still have some privacy and one block out curtain to darken the room, here are the ones I used:
