TV Recording Device (PVR/DVR) Recommendations

I’m looking for a new PVR for one of my relatives who doesn’t have an internet connection (so I think that puts Fetch out of the question).

There are 4 requirements:
1. Doesn’t need Internet
2. Can record multiple shows at once
3. Must have an easy to use interface (this is the main reason the TV’s built in one isn’t suitable)
4. Under $300 (I’m happy to wait for a sale or eBay 10% off promo to get it down below $300)

Thanks all!

  • Good luck, not a lot around these days. I ended up going with Fetch

I wish I could pick up a Fetch for them but it seems like it needs to get online every now and again.

Looks like somebody is liquidating all the old Topfields for ~$100 on eBay so that might be a good option if I can’t find anything better!

      • you only need the net to sign up on Fetch

        • Really? What about the EPG?

@stickyfingers: not sure, just assumed that was provided in the same manner they appear on my tv's that dont have internet.

Low power PC with a TV Tuner card and appropriate software.

The PS3 Play TV is a dual tuner USB TV tuner which can be picked up for 15 bucks or so. It has good Linux support and Windows 10 drivers, you don't need the PS3 disk.

  • Just get a PVR, not many choices out there, since they are out dated. Try JB/HN and GG
