Clothing stores for short men

I’m short (167cm) and have always struggled finding clothes that fit me. Pants are always too long, shirts go too far past my waist, jacket sleeves are too long etc. I like my clothes to be fitted and not look big or baggy, so not being able to find things sucks.

Does anyone have recommendations on some clothing stores in Australia (preferably Melbourne) that cater for men my size?

  • My business attire is tailored. I buy my suits and shirts overseas from a tailor for approximately 75% of the price I’d pay here to get off the shelf stuff altered, but I get my pants hemmed up for about $30. Thankfully my waist fits the profile of the average Australian male (eg more overweight than not).

    Tees and shorts are alright.

    • Could you share how to get in touch with this tailor, or just overseas tailors in general?

      • The workmanship and garment quality of my once trusted tailor has tanked. My last lot of shirts were shit. I’m searching for a new tailor now.

about the same height. i find uniqlo always pretty good. pants can be hemmed for free, so i havent had to deal with super long jeans in ages. its actually super nice being able to finally get pants that just the right size that can occasionally reveal a little sock, and arent always ridiculously bunched up on my shoes.

i havent noticed the shirts being particularly long or anything, so theyre probably fine too. similar with jackets. i recently bought a long coat from uniqlo (in japan) and the sleeve length is basically perfect, erring towards being slightly short, if anything
recently got some muji shirts which are also good.

      seconded for uniglo.

Japanese people are not a tall "race" (just as scandinavian people are ,on average, are a "tall" "race"

I am in the "average" range of sizes is Australia - size L shirt, size 36 waist trousers, size 11 shoes.

when I lived in Japan it was virtually impossible to find clothes that would fit me. (uniqlo stores in Japan would usually not have any stock which would fit me size)

shirt and jacket sleeves were noticeable too short.

        Uniqlo, not Uniglo :)

        • I do that EVERYTIME.

Third for uniqlo. Came here to suggest. Free alterations for pants over certain $.

Used to work there and men would often buy female pants because they preferred the fit and length. Try that too?

    • Oh com'on, this was funny.

    • I was going to say pumpkin patch, but this was better.

    Uniqlo

  • I’m short (167cm)

This is a Medium for chest and 32 for waist. Costco, Kmart, Target, BigW, Westfield and other large department stores carry these sizes.

shirts go too far past my waist

Wearing shirts that stop at the waist is tacky. Tuck them in your pants.

Oh that's not that short. It's actually probably not far below, if at all, the average for (male) OzBargainers because I've a hunch Asians are probably over-represented on here.

Second that Japanese stores are a good bet - in my experience, good Asian (or short/skinny-ish) sizing, good styling. Or just online if you know how to use Taobao/Aliexpress/etc. Buy one or two from the same brand/style/fit (they have size guides with exact measurements), and once they arrive, then you can buy like a dozen of the same style in different colours/patterns/etc.

  • Boys 14/16 may work for you and get you a $ saving.

    Pumpkin Patch?

  • Suitsupply have ‘short’ sizes available. That’s what I get from them. Free returns if you don’t like.

  • look for slim fit on shirts, that certainly helps.

  • Jack London, Ted baker, Marcs, French connection seem to have more fitted clothing for men but you will still need to alter some of their pants for length
