'Upgrade' Dyson V8 Animal to Absolute $129

Moved to Forum: Original Link

This one's for people like me and got excited by the Dyson V8 Animal vacuum cleaner deals a few weeks' ago, but then got buyer's remorse when the Black Friday deals came out.

I really wanted the Soft Roller (Fluffy) head that comes with the Absolute but didn't come with my Animal (that's the only difference between the two models). I figured it'd be a simple case of ordering the part from Dyson over the phone. I called a few times, explaining myself differently each time, but they flat-out refused to sell it to me. Apparently it's "not fair" (their words) to the people who paid for the Absolute!

Then today I simply explained that I bought my machine only 2 weeks' ago and I really wished I could upgrade it. Simple! By indicating that I'd just bought it and it was within the 30-day returns window, they were more willing to help. I selected to buy the head for $129. I could have returned the whole unit and got an Absolute. It would have saved me about $10 given the current Black Friday pricing (which expires today) but it would have been an extra hassle.

Edit: it is possible that this is only available to people who bought directly from Dyson. This was almost mandatory to get the OzBargain deal above (price match).

  • Yeah Dyson are disks about parts like that. This is more of a forum post then a deal people can use though.

next thing you know they create a notch on V11 attachments to cancel out compatibility between animal/absolute for market segmentation

  • Is this only available if you purchased directly from Dyson?

    • Good point. She did ask if I had bought directly from them.

      • Did you need to provide your previous order details or did they find you in their system?

        • I was automatically registered with them because I had purchased directly from them. Not sure how things would work if you purchased from a reseller or from overseas.

  • I've seen the soft roller heads on eBay for less than $129, and even less again if you're willing to have a second-hand soft roller head…

    • I spent a week looking around on eBay and I couldn't find anything cheaper. They may pop up from time to time but there's no guarantee.

There's one company in the UK selling them on eBay for $139, but after shipping and taxes that ends up being more like $160.

Plus, buying new from Dyson means it has the same warranty as the vacuum cleaner itself.

I've also seen 3rd party connectors that let you use V6/V7 in V8 and visa versa.

    • cross compatible parts, nice.

  • I’ve just returned my V8 Animal under the 30 day money back guarantee and bought an absolute for the same price off Bing Lee! Also return shipping to Dyson is FOC

    • if i opened the box, and tried the vacuum without cleaning just power on, can i still return?

      • Yes, you can use it and still return it

  • Can anyone find a cheap upgrade option outside of the 30 day period? I can’t find anything cheaper than $150

Haha you get so angry when people question your nipple size

How on earth is it possible for someone to get excited about a vacuum cleaner. Dyson are very overrated. Ours was absolute rubbish and died just outside warranty.

Did you speak with them about that? They'll probably honour the warranty anyway. If not, you still have Consumer Guarantees (Consumer Law).

      • I haven't yet but from what I hear online they don't. I hated the thing so much I'm kind of happy to see it go. It would clog on quite small items such as a grape.
