What's My Gaming PC Worth?

Hey everyone
I have noticed a few people on here are pretty smart when it comes to this stuff so thought i would ask here.
I am getting a new PC delivered Friday and i am trying to work out what to do with my old one (specs below)
Can anyone tell me what it might be worth if i sold it second hand?
Would it be better to sell the parts?
Best place to sell it.. Gumtree, Ebay, Ozb Class?

Thanks in advance for your help

Intel Core i7 6700K
ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING Motherboard
ASUS STRIX GeForce GTX 980 Ti DirectCU III GAMING

  • I'd Gumtree it, eBay can be such a (profanity) with the listing fees etc.

    • You only have to sell it for 16% higher than Gumtree for it to make sense money wise and there is so many more people on eBay = more chance of less bargain savvy buyers.

Plus you don't have to deal with people making offers.

Not really true. Take advantage of $1.00 final value fee every weekend or free ones every now and then.

I sell 1-2 random things I need to get rid of every few weeks, and eBay has worked out pretty good for me so far - and I paid $2 in fees in last few months.

  • I'd say around the $400 mark.

    • Uhh, if you're willing to sell this machinee for $400 I'll take it off your hands.

was just looking on Ebay.. the 980ti's are selling second hand for around that much :P
TBH i am not looking to make a fortune just get something for it :)

Yeah I would've said something closer to $600 if you want to move it fairly quickly, push it to $800 ish if you're not in a rush and you'll probably still find a buyer.

The problem with these kinds of things on the used market is this: the kind of people who'll know the parts and what they're worth, and willing to take a risk on used parts - they'll also be the same people who'll know enough to want to go with the latest gen everything.

And the people who don't care… also won't know enough about PC parts to either know what you're system is worth, or be willing to risk buying used parts.

      • Just noticed the CPU lol.

Probably closer to $700 with the cpu and board probably still worth around $300.

Go to eBay, copy paste first component, say CPU, into ebay search ("i7-6700K"), select used, select sold and sort how you like (low to high for example) - now you can see the prices people actually paid for items. Use - in search to remove results eg. -AMD

Look at any "too good to be true" prices, if the vendor has very low transactions and feedback score it's probably a scam and can be ignored.

I usually price things at above average prices, higher if I don't mind waiting but it's always good to remember that 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing so lower your prices if necessary.

Post it on Facebook marketplace. You'll get 100+ views a day.

    • Yes I tried FB market yesterday. Sold a mattress in one day with 8 people interested vs 1 person on gumtree.
      Recommended.

  • try $1000

  • Overclockers is the place to sell something like that, you will get abit less than ebay, but no fees and usually cash on pickup.

High estimate would be over $700 under $1100.

Maybe even less because older parts and second hand.

The 980ti is pretty much comparable to the GTX 1070.

The 6700K is pretty much comparable to the i5-8400.

Have seen prebuilts for those go around the number mark here on ozbargain and eBay, cheaper on gumtree.

Around $700 would be my assessment also.

My 6700k is still beasting on @ 4.6ghz

  • +1

    Around $750

    The GTX980Ti is worth $380-400

  • Thanks everyone :)
Am going to try and sell it as a build on Facebook and Gumtree for around the $750 mark :)

I knew coming on here was the way to go… i appreciate all the insight :)

Put it up in the classifieds here too - it's free and we get a lot of people putting together PC builds.

I would say $1000 easily, cpu, ram, gpu and storage is about 800, the rest can add up to easily 200+
