Suggestions for dual monitor setup

Hi,

I've been looking to get an ultrawide monitor (LG 34UC99 or Dell 3415W) since last few months for office / productivity use only (no gaming) but I can't justify the cost. I mean I do feel the need of a monitor from time to time but $1000+ seems excessive.

So I just had a thought that my requirement can also be achieved with a dual monitor setup. Any suggestions for 2 x IPS monitors with really small bezels that can be placed next to each other? I have a 2017 Macbook Pro 15" with USB-C.

Thanks

    Hey,

I have got two Dell U2518D and absolutely love them. I connect both the monitors through a Caldigit Dock

    This is my setup.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers!

Does your MacBook mirror one of the monitors to can be used as a 3rd screen? I'm looking for something similar for an iMac to connect it to 2 external monitors. Currently connected to one external as a 2nd monitor and the iMac as primary.

      • No, it works as an extended display. That is the beauty of the Caligit Dock as it is a Thunderbolt dock

        • If you have your MacBook open is it the primary screen? then extends to 2 monitors? (You can scroll across all 3 screens with the mouse)? OR is the MacBook just mirroring one of the 2 monitors and you only scroll across the 2 monitors?

          • @Imhereforcomments: Yeah, I too had this question in mind. :)

Be rest assured, with the dock, there are three different screens (extended displays), no mirroring at all.

I had researched a lot before buying the Caldigit dock. It also has an extra USB port, which acts an hourly time machine backup on an external USB drive.

            • @vik27kum: Thanks! I'm glad there is a solution, though I'm running an older Mac and need a dock for the thunderbolt 1. Will trying to look for it.

  • If it's for office use I wouldn't stress too much about the bezels honestly. You'll get used to them. It's gaming where they're a no go.

  • Other than for very specific applications, you'll never need to stretch one window over both monitors anyway, so wouldn't worry about bezels. If you do have that need then I'd just spring for the pricey extra wide monitor.

That said, a double monitor set up is fantastic and absolutely worth the effort and cost. And if you're running a laptop it effectively becomes a three monitor set up.

I have 2 AOC 22" monitors as my dual set up for my home office (desktop not laptop).

I'd suggest AOC - from a purely "monitor choice vs cost" perspective - as an ozbargainer I can't recommend anything else.

they are IPS & they are inexpensive - best monitors I have ever owned.

admittedly the first monitor I picked up during hard rubbish, and the second (identical monitor) I obtained via ebay for $10.

    but hey - great monitors.
