Westpac Altitude Credit Card $3000 on "Eligible Purchases" to Get Points

Hi,

I have a $0 annual fee Westpac Altitude Credit card and need to spend $3000 on "eligible purchases" to get the bonus points.

I don't have enough to pay for to meet this requirement (no bills or big purchases coming up)

Any tricks on how to achieve this gratefully received!

Thanks

Buy gift cards e.g. 3 $995 Westfield Gift Cards plus $50 Woolies or something to make it up to $3000

    • Great idea thank you

  • Chirstmas is coming.

I heard people pick a refundable hotel and refund after get all the points

    • But the refund will go to the same cc means you can't cancel the card. Means Westpac can take the points back because you technically don't spend them

      • Have you tried?

      • Not if you use the points or transfer them

Tried this scheme.. make sure you transfer the bonus points straight to your frequent flyer acct before you cancel the hotel booking

Pay electric 3k , then switch to new company, elec company sends you a cheque.

Or do combo of this and gift cards above.

Get 5 percent discount on gift cards too.

Does this actually work? I just loaded up Red Energy with all my AMEX cards on the spend $150 get $50 in credit. Could get this all back in cash!

    • I guess that would work even if you didn't switch company - you would just be in credit?

  • Book a hotel with "free cancellation" about 12 months away. Pay with your credit card and cancel your booking (getting a refund) once your points have been credited.

    • Very nice!

  • Pre pay health insurance, utilities etc. One thing that I always email/on line chat and screen shot it to ask is if the ATO will go toward the $3000 spend to get the bonus. They usually say 'yes'. Be aware though, that ATO will not get points for a everyday spend, just the sign on bonus.

So, if you put $3000 on the card for the ATO, you get the x bonus points, but not the 3000 points for the ato spend itself. I find that less stressful than tricky, book/refund/etc etc.
