    People still watch FTA TV?

    • I dont really, I just want to know if its ever gonna happen

    • Only for sports!

  • There's this thing called Youtube.

    • Not even talking about youtube here, talking about tv channels. GG

  • Tokyo olympics will be broadcasted in 8k!… in Japan

    • wait what really? thats amazing. is there any 8k tvs? I never seen one.

      • Have a read of some articles, here's the wikipedia link.

There are 8k TV's available internationally (See Curry's).

Here's Samsung's AU news page, though no release dates yet. We should start seeing them in the market soon.

We don't even have 1080p channels now, there's no way they have any plans for 4K. Pretty sure they simply don't have enough bandwidth over their spectrum to carry enough data for 4K.

    • There's enough spectrum with modern compression formats and DVB-T2 if the TV station aren't spreading it across so many channels.

  • 4k tv will happen the same time as 5g is the standard, or so my crystal ball tells me.

  • Best not to compare Australia with countries like Japan. The cost of infrastructure vs the population it can reach per tower is insanely different. Until they change the transmission method, 4k will not be realised.

  • Lotsa cost in broadcasting in HD let alone 4k and bigger .So still waiting for more FTA HD channels . Stations save money by cutting bitrates in both SD and HD transmissions (less data sent= less energy = less cost ). They and the viewing public have gained from most new content being filmed / captured in 4k plus and then very skillfully /algorithmically down sized to HD and SD with a great degree of preservation of Picture Quality .

  • and Freaking Foxtel still charge Extra $$$ if you want HD channels, I mean that shite me standard by now
