Phone for mum. Telstra prepaid phones work with Lyca?

Hi guys,

Looking for a new phone for my mum. She is currently using HTC. I can't remember the exact model. She is not good with tech but she does use the phone for WhatsApp, controlling YouTube and internet banking.

She is currently on Lyca mobile prepaid and will probably stay with them. I think Lyca uses Telstra network. If I buy the Oppo AX5 for her from Telstra, would that work with Lyca too?

Is there any other phone you guys would recommend. Need big screen, Android and something under $400.

    Should work. I brought a cheap $40 Nokia Lumia locked to Telstra and was able to use a Lyca or GT mobile (can't remember which one) sim.

    Get Huawei Nova 3i($328) by doing the price beat Gearbest at Officeworks. YMMV

      I have bought phones from China before and had good run with them but I want to buy something local for her. I will have a look at the Xiaomi on eBay. Cheers

    Motorola g6 or G5s if you want to save a little bit more. Both good phones for an older individuals. At office works they’re unlocked and will work with any carrier

    Update for anyone looking to do this. Lyca Sim didn't work on Telstra prepaid phone. Gonna have to pay extra $80 to unlock it.

    The phone is amazing tho. So still worth $380 including the $80 unlocking fee. Bought the Oppo AX5.
