Changing Flights with Jetstar. Is It Possible to Change a Flight into Another Flight, Not Just The Time?

I have booked a flight for my cousin who's in Perth. Her flights are flight 1 (Perth to Adelaide) and flight 2 (Sydney to Perth). Is it possible to change the flight 2 to Sydney to Adelaide? Right now on the website, I am only able to change the time of the flight 2 but not the location.

If I contact Jetstar, will they let me change it? If you have changed your flights like this before, any idea about the price?

Your best bet is to ask Jetstar itself.
But if you want my opinion, it’s a maybe for the first question, and $3.5 for the second.

what did Jetstar say when you asked them?

    • +6

They might have said, "We aren't prepared fly the plane to Adelaide rather than Perth"

  • They'll probably charge you a cancellation fee that's 90% of your original ticket then just rebook you on the whole new flight.

I tried to do this once on a Jetstar flight to Singapore. They were happy to make changes… but only if I paid hundreds in fees. What a joke.

Budget airline….. Book the cheapest price, have to deal with the T&Cs

How's that a joke? You booked the wrong flight.

What's with people (you and Halvar lately) not understanding the concept of making decisions?

Its amazing they are allowed to do this.

To do what? Deliver the product the OP purchased rather than something totally different the OP now wants?

      Yeah how dare they!

Budget airlines are cheap and don't allow 'free' changes at a whim, buy a qantas full fare ticket and you can do this without charges, but then its 8x the price.

    • The terms and conditions are made quite clear.

If you're not 100% certain on your own itinerary, then book the full-service airlines that are a little more flexible. Obviously, this flexibility doesn't come for free.

I actually think they won't, I think they'll have to cancel the whole flight because its treated as one whole journey (unless you bought the tickets apart).

Check the prices early, last time I tried to get them to change the date of the flight, they wanted me to pay a $100 fee, and then claimed that the only flight left was this $300 flight and its running out fast and I have to get it as soon as possible or I'll miss out and I'll need to pay an extra $50 to make up the missing amount. Only for me to look online and find a wayyyyyy cheaper flight online and just do a no show for the jetstar flight.

If you contact them- you may have a chance, though it would based on good will and may need to pay extra. See what your options are.

If you don't contact them - you have 0 chance.

What you got to lose by just asking?

Its not like I dont want to contact them, when I asked this question, it was late night, so I was just figuring out my options since they have the messenger bot, website bot etc.

  • We had flights booked with Jetstar. I ended up in hospital with bad injuries and couldn't make the flight / travel. Somewhere, deep in the bowells of the Jetstar website, it says something about being able to cancel trips under these and similar circumstances. My partner chased it up - quite an ordeal (having to supply all sorts of proof that I was unfit for air travel). Most of the people she spoke to in Jetstar said "no, can't be done"; this is despite the website stating different. In the end we got a voucher for the amount that we paid on fares to use only on jetstar within a year. That is we had to make the bookings within one year, but the flights could be after 16 or so months. That's what we did. No complaints; they are a budget airline and like other budget airlines I'm guessing their profit margins must be pretty tight. Although, if they have policies, it would be great if they just followed them without all the hoo hah.

That seems fair. It's unfortunate you couldn't make the fight, but it's not exactly the airline's fault either.

  • I changed Jetstar flights a few days ago. They charged $190 each way=$380. Same destination-Bali. We had no medical or other reason-except My husband wanted to do something else. I contacted them for help via Facebook, they answered in about 12 hours so you can try.But I didn't ask to change destination. The initial flight was a cheap deal & I had paid for upfront seats and baggage-that was switched over and we didn't have to pay a fare difference because they still have the same fares.

3 years ago we had to cancel flights because one of our kids was very ill-she was not going with us. They asked for a medical certificate-entirely reasonably, and we were given a full refund on compassionate grounds. It was a domestic journey and I had failed to take out insurance-lesson learnt.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

on their website, it says the following

    Origin/Destination changes

    • Not permitted.

    • An origin/destination change is when the place of departure or arrival of a booking is changed. This includes changing the date of an outbound flight so it would depart after the date of a return inbound flight.

Guess I wont be able to change the destination or get a refund.
