  • What change to Amex reward program are you talking about?
    (missed the announcement)

  • Are there generally better deals than 15%?

  • So just to confirm, you have to initiate the tranfer before 9 Dec, not have the points landed in Velocity by 9th Dec?

    • Transfers are usually instant.

    • Date you initiate the transfer. Usually for Velocity takes a couple of business days.

  • Also been trying to figure out how many points needed for travel but keep getting "Not available" for origin of Perth to any of these places Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Kulu Lumpur.

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/Airline…

    • Singapore is the only place out of those that are a direct flight (2432 miles). The others you need to do as the error suggests and calculate each leg of the journey.

  • I wonder if they'll come up with something closer…

  • Anyone got any good sign up/referral deals for velocity account?

The amex changes are good and the points you have in your account in april 2019 will double

    • Where does it say they'll double your points? For Platinum Edge, their FAQs says your points balance will stay the same.

      1. What happens to the points I have in my account on 15 April 2019?
Your points balance will remain the same, however the rate at which you redeem points will increase from 15 April 2019. This means you will need more points to redeem travel, hotels, experiences, goods and gift cards at eligible partners from 15 April 2019.
    • This is a rumour only (found in the comments section at Pointhacks) and is unconfirmed.

It's confirmed on the letter sitting in front of me.

The doubling of points is only for Platinum Charge and Centurion members. This simply means my points I've already earned are not devalued.

    • thats a very ireesponsible and incorrect statement to make

your points are doubled omn the day of the halving of the airline rates,

so net position is the same,

also, its only confirmed to platnim charge cards as well as their discretion,
most people dont get these doubling,

and its only confirmed if you get a physical letter from them

If they half the rewards bonus then they would have to double your points or else people would be quick to file lawsuits. I did get the letter so simply stating what is in it.

Can you upload your letter? I don't think mine says it

          • @padman: Nor does mine.
Maybe they are going to do this so your existing points don't get devalued, but all future earns will be effectively halved?

            • +1

@Gaz1: Oh well guess it is centurion and platinum that benefit, points earns increase after the change to a better scheme overall for earn rates. But guess it depends on the cards.

              • @debaron541: I wonder if they would double your points if you changed to a Platinum Charge and Centurion before the devaluation?
Might be worthwhile for people with large points balances that don't want to transfer them out just yet.

                • @Gaz1: Very few will qualify for those cards though

        • ummmm. thats what devaluation is

and yes, basically everyone except those on the premium cards such as charge or centurion,
and those already on ascent premium wont have their points doubled except on a case by case basis,

and yes, most people are getting letters with no reference to doubling, some are

obviously amex may change their mind as its still 6 months away

          • @Samsungnote10: I understand their income from merchant fees has dropped in light of the RBA reforms, but this should not affect old points that were earned when fees were higher.

Its really wrong (but not sure if it is against consumer law) that they can apply this retrospectively to previously earned points.

            • @Gaz1: of course whatever excuse they give is a crock of hogwash,

I think its as embarrassing and insulting as can be

I will be voting with my feet, for example, since the new points will be roughly 1 point per $1 with amex, whilst my visa also earns 1 point, why would i reward amex with their higher merchant fee for the same number of points (assuming its the same airline program)
Out of prinicpal I will be using the visa
