Will You Still Use Amazon AU if Cashback Dropped?

We are in the golden era of Amazon AU bargains. Those 8-12% cashbacks from Cashrewards and Shopback were aimed to grow Amazon's user base. Hate to say it but it is safe to say these extravagant discounts will go away in the medium-term future. Let's say Amazon stays price competitive and gives a slightly higher cashback than eBay going forward, would the tangibles and intangibles be enough for you to still use this service?

Yes. If the item im looking for is cheapest at amazon why would I purchase elsewhere?

My main problem is the eventual increase in price of prime membership. Currently at $5/month, it's great value. If it goes beyond $10/month, i might be hesitant to subscribe, but it really depends on if prime video, ect gets better and more content.

    • You get a month of free membership per new account winks.

    Dont jinx it :)

    • Ignoring the purple elephant in the room doesn't make it scamper away ;P

I probably won't resubscribe to Prime if the AMEX gets 50% back deal doesn't return next year, but I'll still continue to buy from Amazon when I see good deals, why not?

The cashback is a good sweetener, but it takes 3 months (for Cashrewards) so actually have any cashback confirmed and available to cash out, which means I haven't actually seen any of it yet.

I won't consider the cashback as money saved until I actually see that money in my bank account.

If Amazon has huge discount for an item, why wouldn't buy from them?

Cashback just a bonus and can be pain when something goes wrong. As lint says takes months to actually get money into bank, so not like it is an instant refund.

    • For instance, some people have commented how they didn't get Spiderman on release day. Although I've had no issues on preorders, this might be a dealbreaker for those who no longer have an economic incentive? I'm sure there are other reasons.

      • If the service is good and the price is right I will still use them as often.

When eBay cashback changed it didn't affect how often I bought from them.

Amazon shipping has been pretty reliable for me so far, but that boils down to luck

      • I've bought very few items on Ebay recently but loads from Amazon. No issues with shipping to me or returns.

Only minor thing was couple emails saying item arriving today, when item had arrived weeks earlier. Still better than Ebay sellers who mark as sent but don't actually post item that day.

I don't even use it now. Ebay/EB/CC webshop are normally cheaper for the things I buy.

yeah i usually scroll past all the amazon deals because they all say "+ shipping (free with prime)". I don't want to pay a company a fee to get better deals

    • Fair comment. That being said you're not paying just for shipping. You also get free minutes of Amazon Music and full access to Amazon video. Definitely two perks that aren't massive, Amazon Video being a much inferior service to Netflix. However, it is enough to make Prime membership worth having.

  • Also a nod to the guys working for Cashrewards and Shopback. You guys have done tremendously with negotiating such large cashbacks. Keep up the good work!
