Best Way to Transport a Large TV?

Hi, I have a 70" tv,
I'm moving cities and I need to transport my tv. Everything else is done except for the TV. I have been avoiding the thought of using a trailer as I dont want to risk the damage.

I want opinions on the easiest way to do so. Should I go contact a removals company (with insurance)? or is there any cheap courier companies that would deliver for private customers?

First of all, the box the tv came in is best packaging to transport the tv…

    • Will definitely be in that same box

      • Throw it in back seat then

        • Afraid it won't fit

        • Afraid it won't fit

          • @Wombat22: Buy a new car just for this

          • @Wombat22: Tie it to the roof

            • @follow: Will look into this, thanks.

@follow: Second the "Tie it to the roof" idea. You'd have to be careful, and use a lot of rope and padding, but no reason it can't work. It'd just be like using a roof-rack.

              ….Alternatively OP can buy a roof-rack I guess.

@follow: I tied it with some shoe laces and it seem to have fallen straight off..

                @Wombat22: Don't use shoe laces…
                Get thicker rope

              • @Wombat22: Well it's not a shoe is it? Gotta use TV laces.

                • @HighAndDry: Oh right. I tried to look for some but couldnt. Ill use the sticky tape that was on the box. think that'll work

          • @Wombat22: "thats what"
            -she

          • @Wombat22: Dont be afraid… have a go

  • Which cities are you going from/to?

    • Not a bad idea to post this info - I know I'm making a VIC-QLD-NSW-VIC trip at the end of the year. Someone might have space. (obviously hard to work out trust etc)

If it will be in the original box what's to worry about in the trailer ?

Keep upright and use ratchet straps or borrow/hire a bigger car and use the same method upright and strapped down.

  • Goto bunnings, buy a 2x4 piece of wood, use their trailor for free, bobs your uncle.

  • plywood and some bubble foam, as long as it isint moving dont get what the fuss is about every 2-3hr at every stop check if its secured down.

  • Hire a van, man.

Or hire a man with a van.

Consider getting the retailer to deliver it, that way it stays the responsibility of someone who you can get a replacement from w minimum fuss.

This is a perfect time to dump it on Gumtree or eBay and purchase a new one closer to your new location.

  • The biggest issue you will have with transporting such a large TV in a trailer (which I wouldn’t advise) is lack of shock absorption and dampening of high speed vibrations that won’t be accommodated. A car uses suspension, springs and shock absorption to mitigate vibration and knocking, which a trailer won’t, and so even if the panel survives an interstate trip in a trailer, not to mention needing to cover it with tarp and dealing with the perils of securing a tarp for travelling at high speed to ensure it doesn’t get wet, the internal circuitry may be affected by harsh bumps and vibrations.

I’d suggest either paying someone to transport, or hiring a vehicle with storage capacity to take it.
