  • oh damn… just bought oakleys from elsewhere about an hour ago argh

    • bought a pair of evzero trails last week with the 20% off sale. can save another 20bux with this sale. hmm take advantage of the full refund policy.. or ask their customer service tomorrow for the difference..

      • +1

Refund is easy, they even give you pre-paid postage

        • +1

It would make more sense for them to pay the difference, rather than pay for return postage. You're right though, most places would make you return / refund / repurchase.

        • Edit: Accidentally posted twice.

    • Late night online shopping rarely pays off.

  • +1

Even with 30% off sunlasseshut prices are so inflated.

Go in there, try on a few pairs, take a pic of the product codes, google the cheapest price from an online re-seller and every model is 50% cheaper.

    • +1

Which online retailer do you usually buy from?

      • +1

I second this. Would be nice if you guys can recommend any reputable online retailers that sell cheaper sunglasses.

        • +2

I always used giarre.com for my prescription glasses. They do sunglasses too. They are based in Italy. I have never had even the slightest hint that their glasses aren't 100% legit.

Edit: I have often bought retail Australian glasses and bought the other colours in the range from giarre.

          • @BartholemewH: I've just checked their sunglasses list and they're actually more expensive than the local ones before even shipping cost included. They maybe cheaper re prescription glasses, but not necessarily in the sunglasses category (unless there's another way to get their items cheaper).

      *50% cheaper and probably fakes

      • +4

100% not fake, the mark up Australians pay for European sunglasses at places like Sunglasses hut is absurd.

Ill give you an example, i bought a pair of Tom fords last year, all Tom fords at SGH retail for between $600-700

        SGH > https://www.sunglasshut.com/au/664689829477 > $629

The same model at a number of re-sellers

        https://www.google.com/search?q=tom+ford+FT+515+NEWMAN&clien… > around $300, so over 50% cheaper

There are so so many reputable sungalasses resellers that sell the same brand at half the price of sunglasses hut. Never, never buy from this lot unless they are discounted to 50%

I have a friend who works for the parent company of sunglasses hut and their regular family and friends discount deal (ie the same one adidas, CK etc do) they do a few times a year offer a 2 for 1 deal on all their models. This alone tells you are they double the price of what they are meant to be.

        • and yes i realize tom ford is American but i grouped him into the standard higher end European brands category

          • -4

@TightTerry: Wouldn't be caught dead wearing them if you paid me… Worst example you could have used.

            • +2

@Jugganautx: I thought he was talking about the price, not the aesthetics. 🤔

        • +3

it’s expensive to run one of those small stores ….staff wages, rent in commercial strip or mall, so yeah luxotica which owns most of the brands, and owns opsm, needs that big margin.

and with small high value items you need enough staff at certain time to stop theft …

        • Maybe so, but buying online is risky. No guarantee that they are genuine. Plus their aftersales warranty and guarantee is pretty good.

You’d be hard pressed finding genuine designer brands for cheaper than this.

          • +1

@dontbethatguy: Its really not hard to determine what is and what isnt a genuine online seller with sunglasses. They are huge online re-sellers with thousands and thousands of positive reviews. You arnt buying off joe blow from ebay.

visiondirect and otticanet etc are huge resellers

As noted above, my friend works in b2b for Luxotica (parent company) and will happily tell you they are double the price of what they should be. 30% for a lot of the brands they offer still doesnt come close to what you can get them from a big online reseller.

    • +1

not when you get to persol or ray ban with glass lenses ….. 50% is rare, has to be special sale and it will be selected models …. i used to use otticanet who do 30% off always but they ship from italy so now the gst kills it a bit compared to sunglasshut when they do 30% off.

sunglasses hut do 20% off often but 30% on $260 sunglasses is an extra $26 so it is a sweetener.

    • +2

Love it how you get negged for pointing out reality.

    • +1

As much as I agree you can find them online cheaper, I really like trying on sunglasses before I buy. If everyone keeps buying them online all the stores will eventually just shut down, then you have no choice. So I don't really mind paying the extra $30 for instore for the sake of supporting the business, staff etc but if it was closer to $100, I don't think I could do it.

      • +1

But you could say the same for anything you need to try on, im not gunna feel sorry for these big brands and buy it in store.

The Italian bloke who owns Luxotica is worth 23 billion, somehow i dont think hes short of a buck. There is always going to be a market and shop to try on sunglasses.

  • Two pairs of Arnette Stripe's for $140 delivered. Bargain! Thanks OP.

  • Nice thanks.
30% still takes some of the Ray Bans well below what you will get em for anywhere else.

  • Is there a site like pricehipster that lists when they go on sale?

I bought my burberry sunglasses for 50% off once - it was listed on ozbargain, I've lost it now I need a new one

  • +1

There are no bargains at the Sunglasses shop because they're owned by the same business, Luxottica, that makes more than 80% of all sunglasses and owns almost all the distribution channels including Sunglasses Hut.

There are never any bargains at the Sunglasses hut.

  • Thanks mate, perfect timing. Just grabbed a pair of Ray-Bans I tried on at a shop in the States. Amazingly, it was slightly cheaper to buy them in Aus and have them waiting for when I got home instead of get them here. This code made it a way better deal!

  • online orders only :\
Myer has the same pair at the exact same price after discount, can pop into a store right now, try it on, get it today

    • The offer is in store as well

      • Yeap, I noticed that as was walking to sydney cbd's Myer, there was a sunglass hut right outside of Myer

the sunglasses section inside Myer is also run by sunglass hut

  • Still a bit expensive:-(

  • Waiting for Amex deal timed well to stack with one of these promos, Sunglass Hut usually run heaps of promos at this time of year so no rush.
    Don't forget cashback sites either.
