Arlec 6L Evaporative Cooler for $129. Good deal?

Not sure how effective it is. Any reviews? Worth the price?

Got one of these https://www.stratco.com.au/au/electrical/heating-cooling/hel… $89 ok if you use ice cubes and really cold water in a small room in a big room probably not so good

    • Doesn't the ice reduce evaporation? This really is a fan that passes air thru a cold area not an evaporative cooler.

      • Got mine on in my bedroom now 10 times better than a fan

    • According to Quora it apparently does help, if only marginally. But if you put too much ice it will just interfere with the pump.

Also note: swamp coolers only work in hot and dry weather. if the air is already humid, the cooler won't perform well. You'll want a portable AC if you want to use it in all kinds of conditions.

    • I did some research and found out (as other users mentioned) that Evaporative coolers don't work effectively if the humidity is high so for now I'll stick with pedestal/desk fan

      Thanks for the reply

Wouldnt waste my money. Go with a portable AC.

    • That would be optimal but I kinda don't have the budget for that plus there are some other issues

      • Then I would buy nothing, leave it at a fan. These evaporative coolers are very ineffective on 30 degree plus days. On days under 30 you can get away with a fan. Even portable AC units are only effective on 30 plus days in tiny rooms, otherwise they are lacking also.

        • Yeah I am just sticking with a fan for now

I think they are little better than a fan. I find they cause a build up of humidity, which makes you feel hot.

    • Yeah that's true. I have dropped the plan for Evaporative cooler for now
