PS4 Bricked after The Latest Update

This happened to me before but I could either reset my PS4, or replugging my hard drive

This time around I'm only given the option to reinstall the software by USB and nothing else but I could not get it to work no matter what. I followed the exact steps listed by PS4 website.

Anyone experiencing the same issue? Did you guys manage to find a workaround? I heard this is a rather common solution plaguing the community but so far no solution afaik.

cheers,
duke

      Not till contact Ozb

  • Just re-install from usb.
I have had some issue (quite annoying) but very common. I beleive it is to do with psr not fully powering down (by default, you can change this) then because it goes into stand by mode, when power is turned off at wall, comes back with issues about having to check system. Usually is OK, but I think once or twice, it made me do a full re-install.
If I was you, I would upgrade internal hard drive, install software via usb onto new larger HDD. It gets filled up surprisingly quick, some games now are over 80gb (Red dead redemption). Then you have games that come with playstation-plus membership (2 a month or something like that) hard drive fills up quick if 500gb or even with 1Tb.
Could take it back to shop I guess, if still under warranty. Doesn't sound like faulty hardware, since it is a common issue. Just software re-install is most likely what they will do if send it back under warranty. So might as well do this yourself. It is incredibly simple with instructions on screen.
Check a video instructional, if not comfortable doing the usb install.

    • I think the issue is they’ve already followed those steps to re-install via usb and its still not working.

      • If thats the case, faulty hardware, would be most likely culprit. Maybe just a faulty HDD.
I would get a friends ps4 (or take my hdd over their place) whack in my hdd and do the install process. If fails, then HDD needs to be replaced. If successful, then hopefully just placing hard drive with new install, back in OP's ps4, would work.
If under warranty, return for repair/replacement.

        • If under warranty

Warranties don't supercede ACL so it's if it's within a reasonable time frame considering the amount that the device cost then Sony needs to repair or replace it.

I would guess five years for a PS4 Pro but the Consumer Affairs government agency in your state will assess what "reasonable" is.

@Diji1: True. When I bought my ps4 pro from JB hifi, they said if it is over $500 cost then they cover to 2 years (even though warranty is 1 yr) . And I believe they do this because they know if argued under ACL, they would have to cover it anyway, so they voluntarily cover it.
The 'reasonable' part can be tricky. If its the hard drive, I wouldn't expect it to last 5 years from using everyday, several hours per day. I certainly don't use my ps4 that much. But for a heavy use of everyday, as some gamers would put it through, the 5 ywars is a bit optimistic IMO. Eveeything else I would think should last minimum 5 years, just not the hard drive (with heavy/intensive use)
