Looking for suggestions for cheap vacuum cleaner

Hi guys,

Current vacuum cleaner seems a little poor performing, and I think it blows dust back out (allergies, makes me sneeze when I vacuum). It's a Hoover Hurricane, which I looked up, and read bad reviews on. SO thought I'd jump online and look around, and see what I can find.

Was looking at the standard style vacuums (pole>hose>unit) rather than an upright one, though kmart have a decent upright one, which seems to be getting good reviews. Wondering if anyone had any experience/thoughts about <$100 cleaners?

I came across these 2 from kmart, not sure how they are though, sill have to have a look at it,

But also came across this one, similar price, from Kogan…

The Kogan one looks alright (usually does on paper), not sure how it performs in use.. probably similar to other cheaper units ?

Many people seem to like Miele C3 Cat and Dog.. unfortunately waaay out of my budget :/

Thoughts ?

  • Back in my poor uni days, I got given a cheap old vacuum that barely could vacuum. On the suggestion of a mate, I bought one of those commercial Gulper heads (the heads on vacuums you see cleaners in offices use) and it was like a completely different machine. The gulper head semi-seals with the ground, directing the suction a bit better.

So maybe go cheapest and spend the difference on the gulper head?

  • Spend the money and get a dyson - they suck so much more than other vacuum cleaners.

If you're gonna fork out, why would you get a Dyson over a Miele

    • Thanks Super :). I've read OzBargain are pretty pro Dyson, they seem to be well known, but I've also read Dyson are a little overrated compared to other cleaners. I have read Miele C3(?) cat and dog is highly recommended, but like the Dysons, out of my price range :/.

In 20 yrs time you will find that a Miele vacuum was the cheapest one you could have bought :-)
13 month vacuum are never really cheap.

None. They all suck. Some just suck more than others… *ba dum tish*

    My Sunday morning dad joke…

    I'll show myself out… :P

  • Kmart vacs had a good reputation, and very cheap. Look similar to a dyson. almost bought one myself but never. So cannot recommended but might be worth you having a look.

    • Thanks Kiz :). I'll have to have a readup on them I think. :)

  • OP, I have Hoover Performer 3000 from Godfrey for $99, decent unit for the price. I also have a Miele Cat n Dog which is next level.

  • I have a dyson and I have problems with it since the first day. the dog hair gets stuck wrapped around the thing that spins around and I need to cut it with a small scissor every time I use it. While it was in warranty, the dyson people nicely replaced the main carpet attachment and then it broke again.

I also won a small dustbuster type dyson in a competition. I didn't use it for a while and then called dyson about it. They said if you don't use it for a while, it breaks, sorry, too bad.

  • I got an upright one from Kmart.

Its great.. stopped using the dyson.
