Cheap one way to Hong Kong

My sons girlfriend is returning to Hong Kong for more than 12 months so was looking for a one way ticket to Hong Kong.

Did some checking Jetstar to Singapore, then on to Hong Kong, then though maybe some Ozbargainer may have a better or alternative idea.

Looking at all options like the longer via Singapore idea. Guess in the end it will depend on travel time vs cost.

Google just brings up the standard paid for websites that keep giving the direct flights at around $A650 at best

TIA

Airasia is one of the cheapest options to HK, but unfortunately they don't fly from Sydney.
If you can make your way to Melbourne then an example of their fares (with the current 20% off sale) is

    Melb-KL AUS$277.80
    KL-HK MYR 220.20 = about AUS$73

This is based on the 18th May (a date I selected at random), so the exact fare will obviously depend on the date.
Probably a bit of a hassle with two stops, unless you take advantage of the situation & stop for a few days in KL for a break on the way.

In Hong Kong now, $200 oneway to HK via Jetstar.

Keep an eye out on 4pm Friday frenzy sales, usually a cheap oneway to Singapore, and then regular Jetstar Asia sales from Singapore to HK (or Tiger from Singapore)

Truebargains - you have an initial 1 day ban for trolling. You start threads which are useless, and you then spend more time taking the threads off track. If you want a site to spend your time with social interaction to keep you from being bored try facebook, twitter or something else.

People come here to discuss bargains and help others. Stop with the red herrings, they are getting extremely boring and annoying

Thanks zhenjie and Gaz1, for the insights - will pass these on. Up to now, the best she had found was around the $500 mark with ChinaAir via Taiwan. As for flying from Melb, that would be ok depending on saving and her personal value of, time vs price. But now she has some options with the suggestions you have both made.

      ChinaAir via Taiwan

Even Taiwanese don't fly ChinaAir I heard (incident history I believe). All the best finding cheap tickets.

If she has the time and the income criteria, she can try and apply for the Citibank Platinum card and get 60,000 points which will get her a return (or two one-way) tickets to HK. But of course she'll need to pay taxes and also the $300 annual fee. Taxes for a return trip is about $300 so that could mean about $300 per way which is pretty good I think.
