Beware of Buying Gift Cards from Auspost

I purchased gift-cards from Auspost online which was mailed to me, the cards needs further information for security reasons which I appreciate.

However, my biggest concern is that the information needed to activate the cards are all available on a piece of paper titled "Delivery Advice" mailed together with the gift cards it self, information including Order number, delivery address, purchase cost total and gift card value total which was all of the information the rep asked me to confirm.

So basically, someone could have stolen the package and activated the gift cards for themselves easily!

How stupid can Auspost be? I would not buy gift cards from them online ever again due to this reason. What are your thoughts?

did you tell them?…stupid I know, but some companies/people need to be told the obvious many times before they can authorise a method of change *sigh

In theory that’s a good idea, but it’s Auspost. Only one thing worse than having them find your mail, is having them find the right person to talk to?

    • Yes, I've already submitted a privacy complaint to Auspost and have yet to heard a response. Will update if they reply.

None of this data is in this case considered private data.

  • In dog we trust, all others pay cash.

I don't think the discounts on gift cards/vouchers make up for both the risk and inconvenience.

Thats just for me and I have no opinion on what others prefer.

  • That is nothing, I've had giftcard transaction and redemption where the card was sent to me activated so in theory anyone can steal my mail and get the money. Worst is the case of a $1000+ laptop purchased from Amazon US get dropped right in front of my main door. It's mail theft that need to be dealt with.
