This better be able to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs for that price.

WTF almost $1000 for lego…I wonder what the profit margins are

    • +1

Massive margins, however it is almost 8000 pieces and their largest set.

    • +2

The knockoff is still AU$370 (when taxed)
That's paying no Lucas/Disney royalties (which would be significant),and it's not packaged as nice into sorted bags and is slightly lower quality brick finish, and China direct low retail margins.

So the margins are probably still normal levels.

Thanks Op, I was saving for a car but bought a couple of these instead.

    • At least you can build a canoe out of the bricks if you live in the eastern states. Might come in handy.

    • have you seen Han Solo drives a car?

    • Damnit, you lost the chance to buy a high yield investment vehicle!

  • With cashback that’s under $900!

    • Can we get cashback if we pay with discounted David Jones gift cards? RACQ Rewards have DJ gift cards at 6% off, I imagine that Entertainment Book and other sites will have a similar discount.

      Potentially a triple discount!

  • So if there's a 10% cashback, doesn't that make it $887.25?

    • +2

Not really. Cashback is calculated on the price ex GST. Therefore:

      • Original Price $1299, then 25% discount brings this down to $974.25
      • GST on a final price of $974.25 is $88.57
      • Therefore the amount eligible for cashback is $885.68
      • 10% Cashback from Cashrewards is therefore $88.57
      • Final price after all discounts and cashback: $797.11. Final price after all discounts and cashback: $885.68
      • +1

        Shouldn't it be…
        974.25 - 88.57 = $885.68?

        • +1

Sorry, you're right. I should have deducted the Cashback from the GST inc. price. Thanks.

      • I believe under your logic the final price is $974.25 - $88.57 = $885.68 unless of course there was someway to justify this as a business expense and claim the GST back too!

Still a very tempting price if only I had some space left to display it and didn't have these nagging feelings that I should spend $900 more on necessities than more plastic bricks…

        • TRS can be your friend ;)

        • Ok my wife made me use $200 worth of credit card points against it so convinced me I needed it for $685.68. Well that is me kept busy over Christmas but no clue what the hell I will do with it once built!

  • Do I just click David Jone’s link via cash rewards to receive cash back? I remember using cash rewards for ebay before and never got the cash back.

Cost of production = $10 , RRP $1,299 ….bit of profit gouge , should be on Current Affair soon.

    • Do you realise cost of production is just a fraction of the cost of doing business?

    • This mentality is really frustrating.

    • +1

      The China knockoffs are $370.
Find us a Lepin for your $10 +100% markup and we will be very happy.

If the manufacturing was so cheap the knockoffs would be a lot cheaper too.

Even with realistic manufacturer costs Lucas and Disney are the worlds most expensive royalties so there isn't much margin left.

  • Myer has $10 back on $100 gift cards at the moment, so price match Myer and take another 10% off?

    Same goes for Voltron.
