Be Sure to Check Your Bank Statements - Saved Myself $300

I was out on a sat night and was pretty drunk, went to a NAB ATM and withdrew $300, I checked my statement the next day and the transaction was there twice, I thought I would give it a couple of days and see if it sorted it self, it didn't so I rang my bank and lodged a disputed transaction, a couple of weeks later the bank said the transaction was incorrect and they debit my account with $300.

I wonder if I didn't lodge a dispute if the matter would have resolved itself, so now I check my statement every week.

So now you’re $600 out of pocket?

    • I see what you did there

      debit

  • Saved Myself $300

True if they refunded you $600.

so now I check my statement every week.

Takes 30 seconds to check it once a day on phone app. Better chance you can recall the transactions in the last 24 hours rather than going "wtf where was that; I don't remember that wtf"

Don’t drink if you can’t handle your piss and save yourself even more money

Pretty drunk eh, sure you didn't withdraw $300 twice and spend it on more grog or something?

    • The bank says I didn't. I guess they wouldn't hand over $300 unless they were pretty sure.

    Seeing double ey?

  • This is the kind of stuff the banking royal commission would eat up. Maybe also contact Tracy Grimshaw as I feel your story is missing dramatic music and cheesy special effects.

    • You mean the royal commission the Government is holding to investigate the four bodies it has guaranteed to bailout with taxpayer dollars if they ever go out of business? That's not legitimate due to the Government's conflict of interest.

  • Same happened to me once but with HSBC.
I took $50 out. HSBC debitted it twice.

I put the form in to dispute. They sat on their arses and did nothing.

No bargain here. Rang up to claim my free $300 and they had no idea what I was talking about.

    • Well, you tried. That's all we expect from you.

  • Also make sure you count the money the ATM spits out to ensure you get the actual amount you requested. I've been short-changed in the past
