Super Cheap FTTN Capable Routers with QOS/Bandwith Control/Bridging?

We hae a TG7892vac v2 supplied by the ISP that has no QOS or bandwith controls to speak of. Someone here keeps uploading stuff and killing our bandwith and then saying they dont know what application is causing it. The most common advice i got was to get a router with QOS/bandwith control then bridge it to the Isp supplied modem/router.

What is the cheapest router available that can do this? It doesnt matter if its bare bones or EOL. Something like $30 or below would be great.

When I search for recommended routers, i keep seeing $100+ routers that are not what im looking for.

Alternatively, are there any other options? I cant remove their internet access or they will whine to the real estate agent who doesnt care that they are killing our bandwith.

  • The Edimax does appear to support QoS according to the manual.

. most routers do usually have QOS as part of their standard features. Maybe look into the TP-LINK Archer C20 AC750, which is $49 usually if you want faster Wifi, but I guess if you want to throttle your housemate's connection you can buy the 300mbps Wifi router so they get worse speeds…

  • edit: seems like telstra locked qos for tg799 as well

  • Turn an old PC into a business grade router: Add Ethernet network card if needed so it has 2 ports. One port goes to FTTN modem in bridge mode, the other port goes to the network switch. Install pfSense Community Edition or OPNsense and monitor and control to your heart's content.
