Fujitsu still got PCB Failure Issue?

Hi all,

Looking to buy either Fujitsu or Panasonic 3.5kw.

Read somewhere the Fujitsu's outdoor unit is poorly designed that its PCB is not protected, is that still the case in 2018?

Is Panasonic better in that regard?

Hope to hear from someone in the trade. Thanks!

I have received 3 quotes for ducted air conditioning and these are my findings:
1 Direct from Fujitsu, who are currently offering 7 years warranty instead of the standard 5 years
2 A highly rated independent Air Conditioning installer
3 Another highly rated independent Air Conditioning installer

Both 2 and 3 have said they won’t install Fujitsu. One claims that the internals rust, the other claims that the PCB’s are not protected and there are common electrical faults. All signs point to not installing Fujitsu, it seems they have a bad rep and know it, hence offering a 7 year warranty. Worth noting that the 7 year warranty doesn’t account for geckos shorting the PCB. However I haven’t yet called them back to question them on the points that have been raised.

Panasonic have been recommended to me because they send their own technicians out to fix any problems with the actual cooling/heating system, rather than the installers.

I have been seeking a quote from MHIAA, but they seemed disinterested in my business. It appears you have to deal with a reseller/installer and I haven’t found a well reviewed one in my area.

  • I have had a Fujitsu for a decade now, and it never gave any trouble; but if I were buying now, I would get a Mitsubishi

    • Our Mitsubishi Kacked itself after 5 years.
We replaced it with Fujitsu and it has been running fantastic for 3 years now.

      • Which Mitsubishi, Electric or Heavy Industries?

I think it was Mitsubishi Electric from what I can remember.

3 years is less than 5 years, plenty of time :)

        • lol … fingers crossed that it lasts!!!

  • Mitsubishi is too confusing with the models for some reason.. Think I'll just go with Panasonic. Thanks guys!

    • That's a shame… Mitsubishi Heavy Industries units are great.

      • why so? Have you got a Panasonic or Fujitsu to compare?

  • So many recommend MHI brand, any reason why that over Panasonic or Fujitsu?

  • I have a Mitsubishi 7kw split unit at 8yo and it has just had a pcb failure on internal unit and pcb failure on external unit at the same time. The incompetent tradesman initially replaced the internal pcb at $175+ gst call out plus $400+ gst part and install before realising I needed to spend another $600 for the outdoor unit pcb. He apologised but nevertheless I had to send him packing this morning due to sheer incompetence. I had to fight hard for $350 refund.

    • Our Fujitsu 8kw Spilt system cost $500 to repair from the installer, works though…outdoor PCB issue.

  • I will replace it in the winter with a Fujitsu wifi 7kw unit.
