Anyone know what happened to Deals in the City?

Anyone know what happened to Deals in the City? (dealsinthecity.com.au)

They used to have some good deals in Melbourne but the site has been down the last few days and we've had people get in touch saying they havent been able to use vouchers.

  • Can't locate them anywhere. Wonder if they have done a bunk.

    Well here goes:

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=dealsinthecity&ie=utf-8&oe… This gives an ABN so:

    http://www.abr.business.gov.au/%28tjzwpaea5eczklng0cf3ix45%2…

Gives the ABN details (Thirty-Two Pty Ltd). Leading to an ASIC search:

    http://www.search.asic.gov.au/cgi-bin/gns030c?acn=140863038&…

Plenty of info including a history update on 10th march (prob trading address)

    Registrant search for domain:

    http://whois.domaintools.com/dealsinthecity.com.au

    Leads to a netregistry search:

    http://whois.ausregistry.com.au/whois/whois_local.jsp;jsessi…

The last two links give contact name and last one gives a VIC BN number and interesting hotmail contact details. Put all the bits together and:

Seems like a very odd business to be connected with DITC but that is how it all works out.

So now you have an email address and mobile phone number.

Just don't ask me to find your keys when you lose them :P

Cool, can you do the same thing for scoopon? ( I am way toooooo lazzzyy)

      Ummm no :P

      • Well, I'm glad I'm not the one chasing Scoopon's number then.

  • I've tried calling the director numerous times, it goes to his voicemail. It's probably safe to say they have shut up shop.

  • are they the site which is connected to http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/?
so the ppl who bought just lost their money, cause they did a runner?

    • No, they are not affiliated with Dealsdirect. Dealsdirect site is Dealme.com.au.

And yeah, it looks like some people can't get their vouchers, we've had a few people ask us at Buyii

  • oh no, i just tried to access http://www.dealsinthecity.com.au/ i purchased 2 perfume and 2 Biero vouchers from them :(

The Fragrance Paradise in Chadstone appears to be gone now :( Just lost 100bux then I guess, lesson learnt from buying all these vouchers. Has anyone else purchased anything from them and manage to still use them?

    • How did you pay!? If Paypal or a CC dispute it!

Sorry, forgot to ask is there anything we can do to recover our money? Thanks.

I bought vouchers for the restaurant in South Yarra Piazza Navona and they've closed down too. Looks like they did deals with places that were closing down…lost my dough too and I bought more than one voucher

Pretty sure that's his home number and where he runs Pakenham Drainage from, assuming that company even exists. I might give him a call tonight and see what he's up to.

That would be interesting. Keep us posted :)

    Michael Ahern
    Director
PO Box 357, East Melbourne VIC 8002
    M: 0410 727 723

It looks they have done a runner. Terrible image to portray for the group buying industry. Hence I have no hesitation posting the former directors name.

    • Just called this #, and asked for Michael. The guy said I think you have the wrong #. He sounded really dodgy like he was hiding something. I asked who this was and he hesitated and said 'um Bill'.

I have been unable to use my 'Deals in the City' vouchers. I'm really pissed off. Has anyone been able to get any kind of refund??

I think I might make a complaint to 'Consumer Affairs'. Not that it'll help, Im sure my money is long gone….

      • Make your complaint asap.

  • keep us posted please.

  • Yep, I'm surprised I haven't heard any complaints at all. I will be looking to find out what I can do to get some money back over the wkend. I'm sure there would have been others who bought from Deals Direct too who haven't used their vouchers. I'm a bit more cautious with all this group buy stuff now.

    • Deals Direct are not affiliate with this company. This seemed to be a one man show.

      • woops, sorry I meant deals in the city, not Deals direct. Too many companies all with the word 'Deal' in their names… On a plus note, the vouchers I bought for Ibuki restaurant from a different site have been refunded to me as Ibuki closed down.

        • which Ibuki? I've got one from Deals.com.au and I haven't used my voucher yet.

        • oh, that's a petty, i really like that place.
dinner was expensive but lunch was reasonable.
