Games Lately Are Rushed and Buggy

Anyone else think that games are becoming worse? just full of bugs and rushed out? than DLC added later thats meant to be part of the main game?

Anyone else feel disappointed in games lately? I am worried, where are games going to end up in the future?
I feel like they are trying to rush everything out and be super lazy just to grab money
Yes fallout 76 but there is many other games with problems its not just one or two games its like nearly every new game lately
I feel like its becoming worse and worse every year

It’s been like that for a while.

Gone are the days where you’re given a Mona Lisa when you pay for a piece of art. Now, it’s put your money down for the face whilst the frame costs extra.

So long as gamers are apathetic and accept the status quo, publishers will keep trying to push for more and more ways to monetise their game beyond the initial release.

    • ^what they said

ever since DLC came along its been like that

    • Yeah I know its been like a couple years like 3 years ever since PS4 and stuff came out? with day one updates and all..But I feel like its just getting worse and worse?

  • It is a double edge sword though. Testing is down because they can always fix it later but on the flip side, good dev's provide free content updates that keep the game fresh and interesting.

God of War, game of the year 2018, no microtransactions whatsoever. Same with Witcher 3 from 2015, and the DLC on that was well worth it. support the game developers that support the gamers. ignore the rest.

Just wait an extra year before you play the games you enjoy seeing trailers for on youtube.

    • Yes but those are only two games, I love them both btw and played them. I am waiting for DMC 5 to come out , im hoping its just as good as god of war and not just a mess

      • i still think microsoft windows and office is buggy. 'tis the life of the user

      Lately

Yeah it's been a bit longer than that.

Just finished listening to a history of Atari including the time where they released E.T in 1982 after six weeks of development because they wanted to release it over Christmas and tie in with the movie.

They couldn't just patch it in those days so it ended the company :D.

      • you could whip up a AAA+ title in 6 weeks these days :P

        • Yeah, not really :p

I hate the fact that you can't buy a game, chuck it in your console and play it.

Wanna play Read Dead 2? Put the game in, install for an hour and then download a massive patch. Imagine if you lived remote and didn't have 100/40 download.

I remember buying The Orange Box back when I had dial up. Took me about a week to actually play Half Life 2. I thought it was ridiculous that I HAD to have all the updates installed.

Agreed, that's a new thing to me. Early ps4 days you could play pretty much staight away. The newest releases these days wanna copy all this data first… RDR2 was first digital game i bought so didn't have to wait for that on release haha.

        • I'm on XB1. When I put Spyro in, it installed and then started to download 40gb or so. My friend on PS4 said he could play after install and that the download was just Spyro 2 and 3 since they weren't included on disk. I LOVED that.

I couldn't even play it after it installed.

      • Not even remote for some people. I live in Perth in a large suburb that's 20KM away from the CBD yet most of the suburb does not have access to even FTTN and are still on ADSL2+. It really does suck because I'm a PC gamer and PC gaming moved away from CDs years ago to the point where nowadays it's just a code inside the plastic case unlike XB1/PS4 games.

Yes. Yes, they are. You can thank companies like EA and stupid gamers who pre-order their games.

  • Worse, they now sell games that's officially unfinished.

Look at steam's "early access" program.

  • BF 1942, BF Vietnam, and other BF games I've ponied up for were half cooked and had horrible things going on with punkbuster too so it's been going on for a while now.

I just wait for games to go on huge discounts (<$10) or go free to play. I don't care if they're a few years old by then. This also saves a lot of money on PC upgrades; my RX460 happily renders all the games I play right now at 1080 or 2k.

The costs of making a Triple A title probably has something to do with it as well. Imagine bankrolling a project costing hundreds of millions with no expected returns till 3 years later. It unfortunately may make more sense to get a barebones game out, have some revenue to keep the cashflow going and continue to work on it.

    It's becoming unsustainable really.

    • This makes sense. Catch 22 situation

  • Let’s be honest - games are getting a lot more complicated and sophisticated to make. All developers want to ship a good game but sadly they don’t always have the time or money to delay a ship date. Network gaming is still a massive challenge to inplement and not all game engines are perfectly designed to handle it. All games have always had bugs - if you’ve never seen them, you’re just not looking hard enough!

  • They're also incredibly more complex. I just played Max Payne 2 this week, the difference in complexity is like comparing a scooter to a supercar.
