Single Smart Bulb

I haven't kept track of what is good or bad in this space. Hue/Mirabella/Chinese no name?

I need a single standard light fitting (bayonet). (It is the only bulb in the room)

The main ability I want is for the light to integrate with Google home with the ability to turn off/on at certain times and specific colours.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hue requires bridge, so not worth if for single bulb.

    Probably Yeelight for you.

    • Any idea of a good price?

      • There's a search function.

LIFX could be good for this because they don't need a hub to work. They also have good IFTTT integration and work with Google Home.
    Hope this helps

    • A pain to set up though, as the owner of a Mini Colour one.

  • I took the $89 for Echo Plus + Hue bulb offer. Working pretty well. No need for hubs/bridges or anything. Echo plus is itself a ZigBee Hub.
However, I notice that the brightness is not as good as the fluorescent bulb that was already there.

    • Not a fan of echo etc.

  • If you don't xmind spending, get the Hue ones. The colours seem to be better on hue bulbs - otherwise LIFX, without the bridge.

You might just want one right now, but I assure you that once you get the hang of it, you'll want to start replacing others!

  • I'm a fan of the TP-Link bulbs which come in dimmable, dimmable and colour tuned (pick your own definition of "white"), and dimmable RGB which does all colours. They tend to be more expensive than the bulbs that rely on a hub/bridge, but will work out cheaper than those systems if you only want one. They communicate directly with your home network, so additional hardware isn't required. They are well supported by both Google and Amazon and have apps for IOS and Android for direct control. Schedules are easily defined. The only downside is that the globes are the ES (Edison Screw) base, not bayonet. However all bulbs come with a quality adaptor included. It's only a concern if it needs to fit inside an enclosed fitting as it adds about 5cm or so to the length.

  • Xiaomi Yeelights are good for the price. Works with G.Home or Alexa too via IFTTT too.
