Up to $100 Instant Cashback on Set of 4 Michelin Tyres @ Jax Tyres, TyrePlus, Michelin Service Centres & Bob Jane

40

Michelin are offering $50 off for a set of 4 tyres for under 16" tyres and $100 off for a set of 4 for 17" and above. Its instant cash back - discount applied at checkout.

I did not see it advertised anywhere at Bob Jane (which is the dealer I ultimately went with) - only found out it applied when I called for a price match with Jax. A check later on Michelin's site reveals this promo applies to TyrePlus and Michelin service centres as well.

  • Better off waiting for the 4 for the price of 3 deals and getting 25% off a set. On the tyres we buy at least which are like $300 each.

Hmm, good point - in my case I had to change it as mine were below the minimum levels, and I wanted to try Michelin instead of the Bridgestones (which are going 4 for the price of 3) I had previously.

      • +1

Fair enough! We wanted specific tyres too for our Patrol so waited for a sale and changed them before the old ones were bald which we rarely do but they were just such average tyres… Old set were road legal though so sold them quickly.

        • Good point - I'll probably try that once this set gets close to the end of its lifecycle

  • That's a weird way for them to phrase it. I wonder what their logic was, as "instant cashback" is not cashback at all - it's a straight discount.

    • You're right, it is a straight discount - I think they word it that way to not build up price expectation below the usual selling price. Also, this seems to apply to only these 4 tyre fitters

edit: Also, annoyed that Bob Jane did not mention it on the call until I mentioned price matching with Jax's prices. That said, I was a sucker for the extra $5 off per tyre they ultimately provided.

      • Bob Jane wasn't helpful too. I forgot I have a book of vouchers. They charged me full price for wheel alignment. Should be half price for 2nd visit. They should have my name in the system that triggered this so I would not be charged full price. Their prices are higher than others.
never go back to them again.

        • Its my first time using Bob Jane and to be fair to the one I went with, they were all nice - we even had a banter over the phone on pricing and they gave me the best price for alignment when I asked for a discount on that too.

At least on the phone, I've had good experience speaking to KTAS, Bob Jane, Jax and Bridgestone - all were willing to price match if I could find them and provide discounts when asked. In comparison, my conversation with Costco tyres went horribly bad (maybe partially my fault as I was unsure of my tyre sizing, etc)

That said, I'm surprised they didn't have this in their system in your case. I'll keep an eye out for this when I go in for the wheel rotation (which they said is free)

  • LONG LIVE BOB JANE!!

  • The Pilot Sport 4s get good write-ups…. but in my experience anything is better than Bridgestone. I have had two cars (Honda Accord Euro and VW GTI) where I had to get new tyres well before the Bridgestones were worn out because of the noise.

Those cars sounded like I had off-road tyres - and yes I had wheel alignments and balancing done on a regular basis.

Changed to Pirelli on one and Michelin on the other and it was instant relief. And yet I am sure I had a Holden years ago with Bridgestones and I don’t recall having that problem.

    • I went with Primacy 4. The problem here is that there are no objective ratings for tyres like the ones that were introduced in Europe. I had to look up the ratings at BlackCircles and the only ones that came back with low road noise were Michelin ones (Primacy & PS 4) and Bridgestone Turanza T005 (plus high fuel efficiency and wet grip that is). Some tyres in this region are not available in Europe, and thus no ratings (Such as Bridgestone Serenity Plus or Continental UC6), while others have horrible ratings in either fuel efficiency or wet grip. I went with Primacy as they were the cheapest of the 3.

Interestingly, the Energy XM2 from Michelin are not as fuel efficient as one might be lead to believe (based on the European ratings)

      • A good place to get some views is the US site:
        https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=22…
(This is their Pilot Sport4S review)

Some of their tyres (or tires in their lingo) are different and they have a lot more winter tyres, but it is a good reference site.

For high end tyres it used to be possible to get a better deal importing from them and getting the tyres fitted locally - not sure if that is still the case and I prefer to support local retailers.
