Camera Lens to Capture Scenic Beauty in Landscape / Portrait Mode Compatible with NIKON D5300

Camera: NIKON D5300, came with kit lens: 18-55mm & 55-300mm

Please advise the Camera Lens that is required to capture Scenic Beauty in Landscape or Portrait mode?
55-300mm lens is manual and never so far able to capture images with appropriate sharpness.

Thus looking for a lens that can serve my purpose.
Any pointer will be of great help.

    I'm guessing scenic - I bought a Tokina 11-16mm Wide Angle for Crop Lenses which works great.

      Have this too, great lens. And get the 50mm 1.8g for portraits that @phunkydude linked to.

        ^ sounds like he just meant vertically orientated shots lol.
