Kogan Mobile Tells Me The Number I'm Trying to Port Is Not Active

I have been trying to port my number to Kogan Mobile for the past 2 days. Port has been initiated at least 4 times but every time it comes back as unsuccessful. They tell me the reason is that my number is not active at my current provider. I'm currently with Telstra and I can tell you my number is definitely active.

I'm getting nowhere with Kogan Mobile, have called them about 7-8 times already but just going around in circles.

Any ideas?

ring telstra to try to find out why its being rejected

    • I did. But why would Telstra know why it is being rejected?

They said call Kogan Mobile and ask them why the number is coming up as inactive on their system when initiating a port.

See what I mean about going around in circles?

      • ahhhh i see, can only suggest then another call to Kogan but speak to tech support department

  • Did you correctly tell them whether it is prepaid or postpaid? I ported out my Telstra number just fine a few days ago to Optus. I was on prepaid.

    • Yes, Kogan asked me several times. They also checked my name and DOB. These are the 3 pieces of information that need to match my details at Telstra (along with mobile number) for port to be successful.

But it keeps coming up as inactive. Never happened to me before and I've probably ported at least 30 times.

      • Name, DOB, prepaid or postpaid,
if postpaid must have the id number.

  • how long since your last port?

    • About 50 days or so.

  • Have you ported that number with Kogan before and then ported back out? Had that problem with my dad and they had to go find the old account and close it.

  • If it's postpaid, then only the account number matters. There are some exceptions, but this typically only applies to ports between Optus and their MVNOs since ports are manual for most (if not all) of them, and therefore someone can see when the DoB doesn't match.

If it's prepaid, then only the DoB matters.

So, depending on what type of service the Telstra service is, depends on what information is required (and therefore what information is causing the issue). The only exception I can think of, is if this number has previously been with Kogan, or if a previously attempted port is has not been properly closed (e.g incorrect information given/entered initially, and then correct information used on subsequent attempts). An open port out order on Telstra's end shouldn't be the cause of any problems, as far as I'm aware.

  • Mate! I had a similar issue porting from Telstra to Kogan. Although it ported for 4 months I didn't receive a text, mobile/ landline call from anyone on Optus for that long.

I had ported Optus to Telstra then Kogan. OzBargain style.

I rang Kogan they said talk to Telstra/optus, rang Telstra & optus, they were not sure what happened. I sucked it up for 4 months

Now on Belong. Everything is sweet.

Similarly my wife lost her number she had for 10years after porting from optus to Telstra. They told her it was nolonger registered so they place a hold on it.

We have resolved to stay away from Optus in part their network is poor in my area, although they occasionally have good deals.

  • This happened to me lately and I tried to port number from kogan to testra and it keeps saying inactive number from kogan/vodafone
