HSBC Misleading?

So I applied for the HSBC Platinum Qantas Card 2 months ago with 60K bonus points and $199 annual fee.

The very same card now has offer of $0 annual fee first year then $79 annual fee ongoing. No bonus Qantas points.

Is it misleading that I'm paying $120 more year on year? As in, that's the cost of the bonus points? Wasn't really a bonus then?

I'm not sure that word means what you think it means

    Umm no

  • No, but this is what you hear again and again, banks, insurance companies, utilities etc screw existing customers by offering better deals to new customers. You should check these at least every couple of years to makes sure you are on the best deal.

    • It's called the lazy tax. It works very well in Australia.

It's a reflection on our society as much as it is of the companies.

        It's called the lazy tax

It's a system where the customer has to spend hours finding the best deal (except no one is comparing prices by design according to the ACCC so how the (profanity) do they know?) and they still pay more than 300% more than a government monopoly.

It's inefficient, a ripoff and most of Australia did not want privatisation.

        • So a monopoly is better?

Misleading means you were told or convinced one thing, but was given something else. For example, your thread title is misleading, because you got what you signed up for and you weren't mislead.

A dictionary and some common sense seems to be a rare trait these days

  • Dude the new promo is no annual fee and no Qantas points.

Do you want the Qantas points or just no fee as I'm sure they can move you over to no fee if they haven't paid out the Qantas points yet

I've an idea for a new thread: "Is OzBargain becoming dumber and whinier?"
