NBN HFC Question

Hi All,

I recently got NBN Connectivity at my address. I am currently with TPG ADSL and thinking of switching to NBN.

The technology available is NBN HFC.

Now i have 2 questions:

My first questions is that i am currently using an old Netgear DGND3700v2 modem router, so i am pretty sure i'll need an upgrade.

I have a brand new Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Router. Will it be suitable for HFC NBN or do i need a modem-router. Sorry if its a silly question but i have found contradictory information online where some sources say it will work, but some other sources say hfc authentication is tied to isp modem so i will need an isp modem.

My second question is who installs the NBN HFC connection box as i haven't got one, is it organised by isp.

Thanks for your time.

Wall outlet -> [Coaxial Cable] -> NBN Connection Box -> [Ethernet Cable] -> Your Netgear Router

Connection box is sent to you courtesy of NBNco after you arrange for installation of NBN.

    • NBN Connection Box

      Must be a modem right?

PCD (on the outside wall by NBN) > NTD (on the inside by NBN) > Modem (supplied by ISP) > Router (Netgear Nighthawk AC1900).

        • That's if you want VOIP. Otherwise:

PCD (on the outside wall by NBN) > NTD/NBN Connection Box/modem (supplied by NBN) > Router (Netgear Nighthawk AC1900).

Use the Netgear R7000 Nighthawk as your router with NBNCo equipment.

  • I have TPG HFC. TPG will send the NBN box and a new router before install. Sub Contractor will set it all up. I get 45mbs on a 50plan with the TPG router, which covers my whole house, so I didn't both switching the standard router for a Nighthawk.

  • Thanks all, i appreciate you all taking the time reading my query and for your helpful replies.

I'll go ahead and order NBN connection, i will use the Nighthawk router that i have with NBN box since i don't need a phone.
