Used Expensive DSLR Vs Cheap New DSLR

Hi all.

As my canon 600d is broken now, i need to get a another camera. Before i knew much about cameras , it was easy to make that decision. Now that i learned much more, i find it hard to make the final move. So please help me.

My budget is around 600$( not enough , i know and i want to spend more on better Lenses than body) if you were me, what would u get?

I can see used 5d mark 2 (~20000 shots) or can get another used 60d or 600d for $400 ish or can get 100d or 200d or 1300d which is newer i believe.

I dont care much about fps coz i usually shoot one shot at time then review it and take another.. i do care about ISO and max sharpness. Dont care about user friendliness as i am comfortable with all the settings now.

Thanks for your time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Hope you all find lots of bargain this time of the year and years to come :)

  • I've heard pro-photographers tell me to always:
    - buy the camera NEW (moving parts, miscellaneous issues, hence, warranty)
    - and get the lenses USED (quality doesn't deteriorate, can save a lot of money)

And they usually say the Lenses should cost more than the Body. Otherwise, you're either under-utilising the hardware or paying too much. And its wiser to step down to a dedicated point'n'shoot (eg Casio/Sony) instead. Good luck.

    • Pro photographers don't have a $600 budget….

Personally I really like my 60D. Though its low-light performance isn't on par with something like a modern Sony, you can get away with it on a very fast lens. The 5 d mark 2 is nice too if in good condition, though given the budget full frame might not be worthwhile yet (especially since it would require an external flash etc if you don't have one).

      • I got couple of flashes, but cant always just replace good high iso performance with flash. I was hoping someone would have an idea of how new 200d will perform against few year old used 60d .

    • Thats what i thought too. Maybe get a cheapo body and get better glass.

      Maybe canon 200d for 450$?

  • +1

There is no replacement for a full frame sensor. 5D mk2 will win in image quality for the same same lens /exposure /settings etc!… unless it’s FPS.

    • I see. Thanks.

Do u know or have any link (website u trust)of same photos taken with 5d mk2 and apsc with same lens pls?

  • What are your current lenses? If you've got a few EF-S ones you'd like to keep, you can also consider a 7D (either mark 1 or 2). It'll have to be 2nd hand though.
