Given Posh Booze, Like Bargain Booze - Options?

Serious problem here (ok not really but egads)
My better half scored a 2009 Moet Chandon Grand Vintage boxed champagne ($80 at Dan's) and a Penfolds Max's The Promise 2014 Shiraz Christmas Gift Box edition wine (I think this was $50-70)
She also got a $70 Pol Roger that we regifted to someone with finer tastes than ours
All extremely generous gifts, but just not our thing.

We cannot possibly imagine drinking this stuff. In the mind I'm thinking 10c/mL as I take each sip, and can't even taste the difference between this and a $10 one…
Don't have a receipt and the local bottle-O won't exchange them for the 100 odd beers we could get instead.

What's a tight ass bogan to do!?

You are lucky you started this topic, not merely posted a comment, or you would be airbrushed out of existence by the Ozbargain wonkers for your temerity in saying you can't tell the difference. I'm -6 so far for saying I got no more pleasure out of $60 Aberlour Whisky than I get from $25 (from Boozebud) Johnnie Walker Red.

    • Haha well damn. I guess there are some posh bargain hunters on here then. I brew my own beer, latest batch $8 for 23L so I am not one of the posh ones…

Honestly I would probably enjoy a cheap Prosecco more.
(Maybe I can beat your -6)

Perhaps one of your neggers would be interested in buying my posh stuff, if they can tell the difference…

Strategic regifting is the only thing I can think of.

  • I'm a Bargain boozer - I'll try any particular bargain brand and if it is nasty then never buy again.

regarding the Moet - please read this article

the penfolds - lie it on it's side and re-gift it in the future.

    • Haha yeh I can hear the bogan twang pronunciation of Mo-et

  • Yep, regift or sell

    • Is there a good place to sell alcohol? Could try ebay I guess…

      • Need a liquor license to sell booze

        • I thought something like that would be the case… Nuts

  • Have you tried to return to a Dan’s or just the local? Dans may return to a gift card or something.

    • Yeh I tried the local. Haven’t tried dans though, maybe they’d care less?

I’ve always found the chains care a bit less about things like that. Especially if you want store credit rather than cash back. Moreso supermarkets, I’ve never tried liquor.

  • We cannot possibly imagine drinking this stuff. In the mind I'm thinking 10c/mL

Why are you thinking that? Christmas day, Drink the Moet. Chill it and it will be truly delicious.

Penfolds, get some nice steak from your local butcher and have a nice dinner. Read the tasting notes online. It'll be delicious. Enjoy it.

Otherwise, give it to a friend or family member who enjoys wine. Could probably keep it for another couple of years.

  • How can you tell if someone is a bogus?

By the way they pronounce Moet
