How have you been disappointed in 2018?

Have you missed out on any great deals, not received what you expected or received poor service from a supplier?

Perhaps you have a grievance with another OzBargainer, moderator, colleague, neighbour, friend, partner or relative. Or perhaps you're generally annoyed with people, politicians, motorists or the world. If you've got problems, I want to hear about them!

Feel free to also share reports, pictures or videos of any feats of strength you may have accomplished.

I was disapointed with this forum topic.

    • +1

I knew someone was going to say that. It's a Festivus miracle!

      • Sorry I could not resist :)

        • +7

How do you feel about serving sizes in Sydney restaurants in 2018? In my opinion, they're too stingy!

  • +13

I check ozbargain nearly daily but I've only bought like 1 or 2 things in 2018

    • +1

Sounds like a waste of life. Did you really save enough on those two items to visit the site daily?

      • +3

        No, that's the point.

      • Because OzBargain is only and all about the BARGAINS am I right!?

  • +34

OzBargain adding a limit on how many comments you can upvote.

    • +6

      Curb your positivity.

      1. Not an actual quote by OzBargain staff, but that's the effect of it.

    • +2

That only inconveniences Members who really like OzBargain.

    • +6

Half of the upvotes from my comments used to come from you, so this limit has caused me much suffering.

      • +1

        You should sue

      • +4

sss333 is a model OzBargainer and quite possibly our most appreciative member.

It's always great when a solution breaks more than it fixes. Back in the good old days, an upvote cost nothing. Today it carries a significant opportunity cost due to artificial scarcity.

Thankfully a smile still costs nothing1, for now… But who has time for IRL these days?

        1. A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
          It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
          It takes but a moment,
but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it.
and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home,
          fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
          cheer to the discouraged,
          sunshine to the sad,
and is nature’s best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone
          until it is given away.
some people are too tired to give you a smile.
          Give them one of yours,
as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

  • +17

Yep, never enough negative votes allowed… Sometimes there's threads where you definitely need more ;)

    • +5

I don't often neg, but it only seems logical that as the community grows, users will need more.

    • You have to ration your negs, don't spend them all in one place.
Otherwise you have to come back the next day to neg all the comments that deserved them.

      • And what of the deserving comments of the present day?

        • +1

Do what ozbargainers always do - multiple accounts

  • +19

Disappointed at not having access to TGG Commercial :(

  • +22

2018 goes down in my book as the year of GST on foreign shopping. Between the GST and poor exchange rate, it's a year of spendings, not savings. :(

    • +3

Let's not forget that privatised utilities have led to large increases in utility bills as the private sector has ripped everyone off while being so inefficient it's like they're actually trying to run their businesses badly.

While most sectors delivered productivity gains in the period 2007 to 2012 - despite high electricity prices - nationally the electricity sector increased management positions from 6000 to 19,000 while productivity went backwards by 30% according to the Australia Institute.

      • +1

Let's not forget that Diji1, after months of teasing, has reveled themselves as just a Greens shrill. Bit of an anti climax really.

        • +3

Indeed! I was hoping for a charismatic revolutionary in the vein of Che Guevara. But no, all we got is another tired old doom and gloom environmentalist.

This site deserves a better class of political agitator.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: Yes we could have put their face on a T Shirt and sold them with large mark up.

            • +1

              @Baysew: What a shame.

"That's what you get for voting Liberal or Labor!" Won't sell nearly as well.

  • +11

My greivance is that all the truly great bargains have almost all dried up. It seems that sellers are much more savvy these days.

    • +13

Could it be a case of you were getting ripped off until you found Ozbargain and then lots of things seemed like bargains but now it's just normal?

      • +4

        How dare you.

    • You just need to be really quick for all the really great bargains.

  • +4

Just last night I bought the physical copy or burnout paradise for $15 at target, only to get home and realize the digital copy was only $9.99 on the Xbox store.
So I’ve spent $5 more and I have to get out from under my warm blanket to change the disc in winter.

    • +3

Not sure about VIC, but it's summer in NSW.

      • +11

It’s winter just about every day in Melbourne. And summer…and spring…and autumn. #melbourne

        • +9

Who ever thought it was a good idea to found a settlement on the windy bottom of Australia?

          • @Scrooge McDuck: It is not the environment that dwindles the spirit, but the attitudes.

    • +2

Met scotty. Lifelong goal has been achieved. Can't ask for more!

    • +1

      Were you disappointed?

      • +1

        Not at all

        • +2

          Was scotty disappointed?

          • +4

@kahn: I leave everyone smiling and satisfied.

          • +2

@kahn: Does scotty know? probably not, Scotty doesn't know!

  • +2

Getting accused of negging when I didn't :(

    • +13

Why did you neg this comment?

      • +3

        😭😭😭

    • +1

      Why did you neg yourself?

    • Vote a plus as a counter then tell others to F off. :p

    playstation classic

    • +1

How is PlayStation even classic yet?

Sony are just trying to cash in early because they were late to the console party.

      • +2

I think they timed it nicely, after the classic snes, before a classic n64. Just like the originals.

    • I wouldn't call that one a disappointment. Unlike the others it's very easily moddable and can be loaded with other games.

  • +3

Festivus is tomorrow. I’m disappointed this was posted today. Please donate to The Human Fund for the error of your ways

    • +1

I know, but I'm going to be asleep for half of tomorrow and I wanted to get a headstart.

    • I've gotta lot of problems with you people and now you're going to hear about it

      • +1

I got 99 problems but bargains ain't one!

  • +11

@tuzzi got banned… and now Scab is in the penalty box. Where else am I supposed to get my fill of hilarious, off topic comments? :D

Some of the best, fun comments are being deleted for reasons that seem mundane or incomprehensible.

With the growth of the site, it has also bought in its fair share of imbeciles. Threads seem to be less informative and more extended bickering session.

Amazon was a disappointing addition to Australia. Not as good as I had hoped, but it’s ok.

eBay 20% off sales have become so frequent that it’s all a bit “meh” and the price jacking has become the new normal price because of the frequency.

But I do like some of the memes that were born this year. MS Paint requirement for any traffic accident/infringement post makes for some hilarious stuff.

Lastly, my biggest disappointment is that they “fixed” the positive vote system that wasn’t really broken but don’t seem interested in fixing the neg voting system, that is actually broken.

I guess the disappointment is evenly balanced out by the good most of the time. So, I’m expecting next year to be much of the same. My only goal is to post one eBay deal before TA does… :P

    • -1

"bought in its fair share of imbeciles"

      How much did it pay?

      • +2

Woah! Spelling error. Top kek right there. I’ll be sure to show the grandkids.

        • What do you recommend I do if I encounter one of these imbeciles?

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: Engage them. Nothing better than a thread that is 4 pages long where helpful comments that were 5 comments down are now pushed to page 3 because of all the “but my unfounded, incorrect opinion is more important than your facts” autistic screeching.

    • +3

The MS Paint requirement started around May 2018. Two users admitted spending much time for our amusement.

      Example 1
      Example 2

There was also the passing of the torch from Savas to Samwise Gamgee for the half-price grocery posts. Slightly related to this was also the plastic bag fee fiasco.

    • +2

Amazon was a disappointing addition to Australia. Not as good as I had hoped, but it’s ok.

Initally yes, but once they got a bit of traction by posting some amazing deals, IMO, they've ended up living up to the hype.

      • Look, don’t get me wrong, it has been good, but for me, it just didn’t live up to the eBay/Hardly Normal retail killer that it was hyped up to be.

Hopefully in 2019, I am proved wrong.

        • I hoped for swift justice to Hardly Normal too, we all did! But there's still hope…

    • +1

Scab is in the penalty box?? Why? He's an institution

  • +1

Discovered ozbargain in the middle of this year. As a newbie, i thought frontpage deals equals bargains. But several of my ozbargain purchases turned out to be regular priced 'deals' (I always get sucked in by the hype in the comment section). I like to check back on the prices of products I purchased to see how much I saved and, to my surprise, many of the items are the same price or cheaper. I feel like a loser but at least now I won't repeat the same mistake.

    • What did you buy that was same or cheaper

        • SSD, but it's mainly cheaper now since SSD prices are dropping like crazy. Kinda wish I waited a little longer. Got the Crucial MX500 500GB for $120.
        • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 phone for $180usd, it's now $155usd from the same seller
        • Puma tapered pants, prices were similar now and then
        • GIGABYTE Gaming Keyboard (GK-XK700) for $68, now $62. The keyboard is ok but not a bargain, and now I would have rather forked an extra $90 for a better mechanical keyboard.

I'm surprised I didn't buy as much as I thought, unless I just forgot. Many of purchases were actually decent bargains though.

        • I havnt bought a flop in 2 years? :) Apart from my moto g5+ and s… The plus died because charger broke and no1 could get parts to fix… Now the 5s is starting to die same way… I might reign hell on the silly motirola bitch again and demand they provide a replacement to the plus as its a much better phone…

Realising that the journey of self improvement is a slow and often painful process. Disappointed that I am still so far from my own ideal in almost every way after all this time. It's been a frustrating year.

    • +3

Be who you really are and stop comparing yourself with an ideal. It is not your duty to be perfect.

      • +6

Yeah, sound advice. Thanks. Another one of my challenges is being too idealistic and unrealistic, ha :P the irony.

I guess it's a normal part of getting older. The older you grow, the less you know, and all that jazz. Damn it is so real. You feel like you're on the right path to tackle your problems (talking mental health here), but all you do is discover more and more shit, or become more aware of how deeply rooted some behaviours and beliefs are. It's all progress, admittedly. Not all doom and wasted time. Though it can really feel like a bottomless pit at times. Overwhelmed by everything. Defeated by the fact you still don't understand why you do the same old thing over and over.. which you always regret. And lose people you love because of it, every time.

FYI: I have help, support, and am safe. Sorry for the deep and serious posts. Xmas and NY holidays can be tough for a lot of people… all the pressure for happiness, joy, celebrations, family, loved ones, togetherness, gifts, a closing chapter of a year and all the natural reflecting that brings… it's pretty intense.

I hope everyone is safe, and has someone to talk to. I can't be reliable enough to support others via PM or whatever, as much as I'd like to, but I'd like to think there are safe spaces here and elsewhere online where such struggles can be discussed openly.

  • +4

I am disappointed by people who don't reply.

  • OzBargain not hat having a deal on my esoteric shopping list.

  • +1

Disappointed by Bing Lee, Telstra and you guessed it, Auspost!

Slow drivers, slow drivers in the right lane in the freeway especially.

Also had an account banned which had many, many upvotes on its only comment.

All in all, it has been a good year and I can't complain though.

  • +1

I am disappointed when I read an offer posting on 23 Dec and it expired on 22d Dec.

    • +1

Or it was posted 20 mins ago and already marked as “out of stock” because it got Broden’d

  • +4

How Have You Been Disappointed in 2018?

Okay I've got one. People negging deals without reasoning or proof that it's cheaper elsewhere.

    • -1

What about the people upvoting the deal without buying anything?

      • +4

More people should do it! That's one of the reasons positive voting is for. You upvote if you think it's a deal.

It also rewards store reps. Did you know their frequency to post deals is determined by the number of votes they receive?

        • So you think it's perfectly fine for people to vote a deal positively if they personally consider something a deal, but not negatively if they don't?

          • @magic8ballgag: It's not a case of I think, it's a case of fact as per the guidelines.

      • +6

What about the people upvoting the deal without buying anything?

What about the people scoring the deal without upvoting?

Those people, I have a problem with!

        • +3

I agree. If I like a bargain but don't buy it, I might upvote it, depends on how it compares to previous deals on that item.

If I use the bargain and buy the item, then I 100% upvote the deal.

There is a special circle of hell for people who neg a deal and put "colour I want isn't available…" type excuses…

        • +1

Most ozbargain traffic are not registered users

          • +1

@CandyMan: That's very true however you still do get a lot of people saying "thanks" etc. in deals without voting.

          • +1

            @CandyMan:

Most ozbargain traffic are not registered users

            They're even worse!

Biggest disappointment of 2018 is the new Cadbury Roses..
