Returning Stuff on Amazon AU - Do You Have to Pay for Shipping Fee?

I'm going to order an Amazon Echo as a late Xmas gift for myself, could I return it if I decide not to use? It would remain unopened, of course. I've checked out the return process on Amazon, they mention a return label which I think is a prepaid post label.

  • You normally have to pay with Amazon. I had to return a blender, but in the end the postage was to high so kept it.

  • When I returned an item to Amazon I had to pay for the return postage, and then they reimburse you when you contact them.

The return label they refer to is so they can process the returned item easier, when they receive the item back.

OP: Why not just order it when you know you are going to use one? They'll be cheaper in the future too.

Totally agree with this. If you’re not really sure you’re interested in something don’t buy the damn thing.

  • Usually, you do need to pay for returns. Even if the shipping to you was free.

  • You pay return postage, then email Amazon the postage receipt and they reimburse you.
    Source: done it myself.

P/s: I do agree wih others though, rather than going through that hassle just do some more research to decide whether it’s for you before ordering.

  • i had to return a computer mouse that was defective.
they refund a certain amount cant remember how much. i think it was around $20USD max

or you can use the paypal free returns to cover the shipping cost

  • I ordered a cupboard which was faulty. They sent a courier out to pick it up, gratis.

  • Or just buy fell officeworks or something? They even let return it if it’s open

  • Some of these suggestions here may not be relevant to op case. A faulty return is different with change of mind return. I know Amazon will provide prepaid label for local faulty return and pay you $32 for Amazon US faulty return, but not sure you will get paid for change of mind postage return.

  • I didn't like a pair of shoes so I enacted the free return. I was eligible for up to $17 worth of postage to return the item. I paid around $10 at the post office to return it, and was surprised when I received the full price I paid for the shoes back PLUS $17….
