TRS Refund Afterpay Question

Hi, I have purchased an item of jewellery on afterpay, so technically I haven’t paid for it yet…
Am I eligible to claim my tax back at the airport location this week. Before I fly out to New York. This is before I pay my afterpay bill?
And no I won’t be bringing the item back with “me”
Thanks

It's based on your tax invoice.

Paying with afterpay is no different to any other form of credit payment mechanism.

  • Do it quickly before the border force runs out of money, it has no funds this christmas to even pay its staff overtime.

Yeah, Dingbat Dutton ran down the kitty chartering flights for refugees.

    • Is this a recent event?
I don't remember hearing about this anywhere hmmm…

After pay is no different than paying with a credit card. The place where you bought it from, has been paid by after pay already and you will get a tax invoice. When you pay using After pay is between you and after pay. It's basically just a loan

  • There is nothing stopping you bringing the item back. It just counts as part of your normal duty free allowance.

    • If the total value is over $900 AUD you must declare it to customs and possibly pay it back if the value hasn’t depreciated.
Don’t think They won’t red flag your passport after your $50k GST claim and strip search you for the item when you come back from NZ a day later,

      • You can of course accumulate your allowances.
Eg. 2 adults and 2 children means that you don’t need to declare 900+900+450+450=$2700 of stuff coming back in.

      • All the passport control is automated now, and there's no way that I could see that they could flag your passport for review.

        • When you go through the gates mate if the led on the pole turns red then they will stop you! Also their screen indicated, duhh

  • Hi OP - how did you go with this? I'm looking to do the same thing.

  • Yeh all good cuz
