Rorted by BMW & Amex

hi all, i'm referring to the below post
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36090

ok so i applied on 31st of march and ok i didn't save a form of the application because generally things get emailed to you so i didn't bother in the trust everything went ok

anyway so then i got the card, all approved and find out that i'm in the current promo of the george foreman grill… ppfttt whatever, i applied to get the 10,000 points.

so not i'm trying to get advice from BMW/AMex but i'm running around in circles and basically there wasn't any promotion about 10,000 points. so yes can anyone back me up or what should i do?

if all fails, i'll just cancel the card, i was after the points and yes to use the card as well too! aNNOYED!

  • I think you'll find that you were rorted by AMEX, BMW just put their name on the card. If they wont play, I guess your only option is to cancel the card, or get a GF grill! :P

  • write amex a letter and tell them you will be forwarding a copy of the letter to the ombudsman or other appropriate oversight body if not rectified. mention that when you called up they said there was never that promo. be polite.

  • I can't remember if this was ever written anywhere but when I applied (probably late last year) I was told that it would need to be approved by 31 March 2011 so that's probably why you didn't get it.

    • im thinking that might be the case but i can't find a reference anywhere on the bmw/amex website because its the current deal and i don't have a pdf application for the bmw 10000 points to back my claim

  • I can confirm the 10,000 points promotion, I got the card and also the points.

  • +1

You are missing out on owning a lean, mean, grilling machine, my grammar-challenged friend.

I don't trust CC companies where deals are concerned, I always keep copies!! -

"Plus apply now and get 10,000 Bonus Points1
Apply for a BMW Gold Credit Card online before 31 March 2011, and we'll reward you with 10,000 Membership Rewards3 or Qantas Frequent Flyer4 points! Just spend at least $500 on your Card within the first two months following approval and the points are yours1.

Now with more places around the world accepting American Express, you'll find that your Card is more welcome than ever. And of course, you'll enjoy up to 55 days interest free on purchases5.

Start enjoying the brilliant value of Gold and apply today!"

I have the whole spiel from their website but that's just the pertinent part for you.

EDIT - None of this was contained on the application form, it was only featured on their website whereby I copied and pasted it.

    • Does it say anything about the need to be approved by 31 March 2011 in the fine print?

      • Nope, nothing further in the fine print. 31/3, as above, is the date you had to apply by and you needed to spend the $500 within two months of approval. Prankster definitely has a case here!

  • I think we should all make a pdf copy of the t&c's and ads before doing a deal
