evaLIGHT USB Personal Air Cooler $149 + Shipping @ Kogan

60

This is a USB-powered evaporative air cooler that you can use to cool yourself in a low-humidity environment.

I'm posting this with a bit of trepidation because previous deals of this product have been pretty poorly received. However, this is a better price than any of the past deals, and some of the past comments were from people who clearly didn't understand how this works.

So I think the things to note are:
-It won't work in a humid environment. Good for hot and dry places, not hot and wet.
-It is more effective than just a fan. Evaporative cooling means that it actually cools the air, it doesn't just push it around (although fans are great too!).
-It is designed to cool you, not to cool space. I can imagine using it if I was staying on a couch or reading or lying in bed - but it's not going to make your whole lounge room cooler.
-It also uses much less energy than anything else.

So it may or may not suit your needs but this is certainly the cheapest it has been on OzBargain!

Reviews on Kogan are positive but on Amazon they are more mixed.

I’ve got a four bedroom split level home. Will this cool both levels?

Wonder how this compares to the $29.99 ones on ebay. Theres multiple types at this price as well.

They lower the temp by a few degrees directly in front of it. You will get a better experience with a metal bowl of ice cubes in front of the electric fan

    • I wondered that too - it's a lot more to spend although presumably something that lasts a lot longer (although you need to replace the cartridge regularly).

It's the same. Water goes on top of your skin and evaporates, taking heat in the process. As long as you have wind and water then they're all the same.

Kmart has a fan and spray bottle for $5

    • I wouldn't spend $30, when you can get it for $6.99-9.99 Here
I also wouldn't waste $9.99 on a Scam product that obviously doesn't work if you look at reviews for the "Arctic Air"

    • I have one from a cheap shop $28 just prior to Christmas.
Works good while sitting at laptop or placed on a chair next to you in bed. Better than a USB fan.I wouldn't pay above price though.
At 34C in room it made it seem cooler.I doubt at 40C it would make much difference.
Don't move cheaper model around as it will spill water and could wreck your laptop.

These are completely useless. You are better off wiping yourself with a wet towel.

  • Put humidifier at the back of the fan. Mission accomplished.

    • hmm I'll try this :)

  • A lovely 43° today in Adelaide. I wish I saw this earlier

  • Not great, friend got one aspart of their crowdfunding campaign and it was leaking a lot

  • There are cheaper ones on the site but this looks almost the same.. under $50 with shipping https://www.gearbest.com/home-gear/pp_009581709228.html?wid=…
Also saw a similar item in the Auspost catalogue for $69.
