  • Myer's general audience might be of a different democratic to typical online shoppers, where electronics/white goods buyers who might normally shop at Harvey Norman would be attracted by the online shops.

At the same "bargain sites" like OzBargain is actually a compliment to Myer's brick and mortar store. It helps people to discuss what's actually on sale, before venturing into the shop.

  • Its hard to buy clothes like jeans over the internet, especially if you want them to fit perfectly. Hence why brick and motar stores will always have a market. Same applies to $1k+ TVs - they won't be bought online, because it's too difficult to import a 55" plasma.

Really, i can see the internet undercutting small items like clothing accessories (belts, some jewelery, watches, perfume etc), and alot of consumer electronics (games, routers, mice, bags etc). High markup items with a very low chance of DOA/damaged in transit.

Also, (insert generic complaint about news.com.au) - it looks a bit like a paid article to me.

  • sometimes I just hate waiting and having to send faulty crap back via post to wait further and that annoys me further.

It's the small items like dvds, books, cds that get me interested in online businesses - then you have sites like zazz or cotd that will have something worth checking out but even then its some dodgy crap sourced from overseas.

Big w and Dick smith have got it right when it comes to web presence and Im more than happy to shop online or at their stores at my convenience. more so than jb because they don't even want to hear about it if something goes wrong.
